    1. [TNMAURY-L] Old Newspapers 1891-1892?
    2. Stephanie Cecil
    3. Hello .....Can't remember if I have asked this before. Would there be any newspaper obits for Maury County [especially Mt. Pleasant] for the years 1890 through 1892? My husband's grandparents, SAMUEL SHELBY CECIL AND MARY CROSS CECIL died there in those years. I have Fred Hawkins Jr's wonderful Cemetery Books and there is a mention in there of Sam's dying of Consumption in 1892 but does not say where he was to be buried, which is my search project. Sam's parents and 2 sisters are in Lawrence Cemetery but neither he nor Mary are mentioned there. Mary's mother Mary Jane Lanier Cross 1828-1853 is in Hunter Cemetery but no mention of her or of her Father ,John Finch Cross, who may have been a war casualty. I would really love to find where this couple was laid to rest. Also can anyone tell me if there are UNUSED gravesites in either Lawrence or Cecil Family Cemeteries.? Are folks still being buried there? <I live in NC> Thanks for any help anyone can give. Steph Powell Cecil [email protected]

    3. Stephanie, I do not know anything about the Cecil Family Cemetery but I do know that there are a few graves in the Lawrence Cemetery with only rock markers with no inscription but not many. Yes people still are buried there. The Hunter Cemetery has many unmarked graves. The only part of the Hunter Cemetery that is still in use is the African-American session. For years the Hunter Cemetery was badly neglected and many of the markers were completely destroyed. Several years back it was cleaned up and many of the tombstones were dug up and unearthed. Many were beyond repair though. So many graves that were once marked are no longer marked. Maybe someone will come along that can tell you more.
