    1. [TNMAURY-L] Maury Co. Genealogy Research Visit
    2. Am planning to visit Maury Co. the first week in May for some important genealogy research related to my ancestry. Expect to examine records at the courthouse. Would greatly appreciate information on any other facilities that could also provide genealogy records related to Williamson and adjacent counties. The period of interest is prior to 1850. In addition, are there any exceptional restaurants in Columbia and adjacent areas of Maury Co.? Herb Cunningham [email protected]

    3. I travel to Columbia on business several times a year, and with all due respects to locals, I haven't found an exceptional restaurant in Columbia yet. Please let ME know if you find one! 3. Herb, When in Columbia you definitely want to visit the new Maury County Archives. Many of the documents are no longer at the Courthouse any longer, the majority of the older documents such as wills, estate settlements, chancery court documents have all been moved there. The courthouse still has all deeds and some of the wills. They have the wills that are in will books. The archives now is in possession of all the genealogy materials that were at Columbia State Community College and the Maury County Library. It is a great facility and has a very helpful staff. Just remember the Archives is not open on Friday and Saturday at this time - so make plans to be here on Mon - Thurs. One of the best restaurants to eat out downtown where you will be at is Lucille's. It is an older country style restaurant but has been very consistent over the years to have good food. There is another restaurant downtown (I can't remember the name right now) but not only does it have good food - it is one of the cleanest places you will ever eat at. They have never got lower than a 95 on health inspections. Columbia also has the majority of the fast food places - McDonalds, Hardees, Pizza Place, etc. Another very good restaurant is Legends which is not too far downtown Columbia. Betty's Parkway Restaurant has very good steaks. Columbia also has a Ruby Tuesday and Applebee's that are very good. Hope this helps.
