1. Re: [TNMAURY-L] Mt. Pleasant tells its Civil War story
2. Greetings Jan & list, There were actually two Coffey(e) families in the early Maury County History. I myself do not trace to the Culleoka Set though I could probably connect with that family earlier on in North Carolina or Virginia. Supposedly the Campbell Station/Culleoka set (Hugh W. Coffey and family) came from South Carolina to settle in Maury County in the early 1800s. (Census Analysis) My branch came from North Carolina via Kentucky and the first known progenitor was Chesley Coffee, Jr. who last lived and died over in Southport which is near Mt Pleasant in the southwestern area of the county. I have presented many of the memorials of both families on the site "Cemeteries of Maury County" in various cemeteries that is Shane, Evergreen Cemetery (in Progress), Reece's Chapel/(in Progress), Chesley Coffee Grave, Gilbreath-Morrow-Coffee Cemetery and some others. Maury County Cemeteries I think the connections of these two Coffey(e) branches is beyond my aptitude for research at the moment. Until more information (or time allows) comes to light the connection will remain a mystery buried in the genealogies of North Carolina and Virginia. Seems to me they held true to spelling the name differently. Coffey - from the Culleoka area. Whereas; Coffee - from the Mt Pleasant area of Maury County. It is obvious both families branched widely around the 1840s and wound up all over the county and country but then may have co-mingled with other Coffey(e) branches that never came to Maury County. Sorry I could not be more helpful on the connection of these Coffe(y)s. Have a great day. Wayne Austin
