    2. There would be far fewer typographical errors in our writings if the apostrophe were removed from keyboards. I believe it was James Thurber who wrote about his experience while working for an editor of a newspaper. Being a new college graduate, Thurber said he followed the rules of grammar properly, but the editor sent back some copy for a re-write to remove all the semicolons. He completed the work and left it on the editor's desk after a late tour of duty. The following day, he began to write some more grammatically correct copy but found that the semicolon had been filed off his typewriter. Perhaps we should do that with the apostrophe.
