I was asked to give a little more info on the books for the list. I am sorry that it has taken me awhile. And thanks for all the concern for my Mother. She is finally back home after 25 days in the hospital. Anyway here is the basic stuff on the books: Looking Back in Time: Mt. Pleasant, Tennessee: estimate of about 100 pages; focuses mainly on photos; majority of the photos are of Mt. Pleasant, but a few pages feature other places in Maury County; about 80% of photos are identified; there are photos of Main Street through the years, many photos of various schools and functions with the schools, some homes, photo of the 1903 Confederate Veterans reunion (group photo), many photos from various things at Hay Long High School particularly the year 1930; photos of waterfalls near Mt. Pleasant, Senior class photos from Hay Long High School beginning 1928 with a year or two skipped here and there but continues through 1962. Many of these photos have never been published before. "Our Memories" of Sandy Hook, Pugh Town, Rockdale & Sheepneck: about 100 pages; lots of photos - some identified some not (possibly about 50% identified); features articles on the families and history of the area; also many folks wrote articles about their memories attending schools in the little country schools or living in the area; it is humorous, nostalgic, and historical at the same time; nice balance of history, nostalgia, and genealogy. I am still not sure if I am allowed to list prices here, so I will skip that. I know that some of you have already e-mailed me about the books. If I have not gotten back to you, I will soon. If you would like info on the books, pricing & ordering - just e-mail me. I work part time for a printing company in Mt. Pleasant in Maury County and have been interested in genealogy for many years now. I have helped a few people out through this board in times past and have had many of you help me out. > > Anyway my boss at the printing company has compiled 2 books (one with my aid) about the Mt. Pleasant area mostly. > > One of them is a pictoral type history of the area. It has old class pictures from Hay Long High School and pictures of various monuments and homes and buildings in the area. He has collected the photos for years. This book is only photos. > > The second book that he and I have worked on together is a book about Sandy Hook, a small community 3 miles sw of Mt. Pleasant in the SW portion of Maury County. It does have some history and family stories and stories of growing up in the area. Several stories of what it was like attending the 2 country schools in the area. Some of the stuff we have collected from other printed materials but many of the articles are new ones. The book also contains many photos that we have collected, some new ones, and many old ones contributed by others. > > He has also reprinted an out of print book about Hugh Cooper of Fishing Creek, South Carolina. The book deals in great part with the Cooper family of the Mt. Pleasant area and of Lewis County, Tennessee. He has done the book in paper back with comb binding. The book is 2 volumes. > > I do not remember the rules as to posting costs and all on the list so I will not do so. I just wanted to let those know about the books. > > Please do not respond to this here on the list, but respond to me by e-mail at rgray7824@charter.net so that we do not hinder others in finding the info they might need on their families. > > Thanks so much, and happy hunting. > > Rick Gray > > > ==== TNMAURY Mailing List ==== > SOUTHERN HERITAGE NEWS AND VIEWS is dedicated to the preservation of Southern Heritage and to defend the honor of our Confederate ancestors. > To subscribe send e-mail to: SouthernHeritage-subscribe@topica.com > > ============================== > View and search Historical Newspapers.
