    3. One of the sayings my Kentucky grandmother had was "rip-staving" as in, "Don't be so rip-staving!" It meant going so fast that you aren't careful. The only thing I could ever imagine that the term came from was in making staves for kegs. The method of ripping up the wood for staves must have been so fast that it was rather dangerous. Does anybody else know that term? Shirley
