Hello. I'm new to the list. I'm trying to find information on my great-great-grandmother, Nancy C. WALKER. She and my g-g-grandfather, Robert C. IVIE, were in Marshall Co, TN, in the 1850 census. Their oldest child was born in 1844 which would suggest they were married at least by 1843. I have just found a Family Group Record entry for a marriage in Maury Co, TN, that I think may be theirs--although one of the names is wrong: Robert C. JOICE to Nancy C. WALKER on Dec 14, 1842, in Maury County, TN. If this is the record I'm looking for, then the man's name should be Robert C. IVIE (IVEY or IVY) rather than JOICE. I've found IVIE transcribed as JOICE before. If anyone is familiar with this particular WALKER family living in Maury Co, TN, in the mid-1800's, or can confirm that this is the couple I'm looking for, I would appreciate any help you can provide. Thanks. Sylvia
Sylvia, You may have solved one of my brick walls for me! My great-great grandmother was Nancy Walker according to my great grandmother's (Martha P. Jennings) death certificate. Martha was born in 1840. Her father (Nancy's mother) was Thomas D. Jennings. Thomas was born in 1816 based on his gravestone and married Nancy on Nov 29, 1838 in Marshall County, TN. Thomas is listed as Ginnings on the record. I just looked and it is located online at the Marshall County web site (http://www.tngenweb.org/marshall/marriage/book1.html "Thomas D. Ginnings m. Nancy Walker, Nov. 28,1838, Executed Nov. 29,1838, By Joseph McCord Elder". I assumeNancy was born 1820-1825 based on the 1840 census when she was counted with Thomas (which did not yet have Martha). Beyond that, I have suppositions only. Thomas apparently divorced (hopefully) and remarried Phoebe C. Reid on March 29, 1843 in Marshall County. They had at least 7 children together and were in Greene Co., MO by 1857 according to an old history I saw. What do you think?!
