John Gordon operated a ferry on the Natchez Trace at the Duck River just barely into Hickman County. He was a friend of Andrew Jackson's and had the title 'Captain of the Spies.' The nearest town to the family was at Williamsport in Maury County. John Gordon started a large two story house on his plantation but died in 1818 just prior to its completion. His wife, Dolly, completed the house and operated the ferry until her death. If you will send me your address I will send you what I have about the Gordon family.
