Karen, Thanks much. The only thing I have to tie Lee SPEERS to Maury Co. is the place of birth on Muster Roll when he enlisted in Aug 1862 as an Illinois Volunteer. It gives his age as 44. The birth date computed from transcription of info on tombstone is 16 May 1820. If there’s an error it could be 1818 and the age would match. I know he married Eliza THROOP. It was probably her second marriage and I guess it could be his second. That’s why I asked who he married. I know there were THROOPs in Maury Co. early, but I don’t know any more about them before Illinois. I’m guessing the marriage was in Illinois. That’s my second question. Can anyone tell me anything about the THROOPs in Maury Co.? I know a Madison SPEER bought land in Illinois in 1834 but he wasn’t there long enough to be on a census. I haven’t connected Lee and Madison. That’s all I know about Lee until after his marriage.. Maybe we can get these folks together.
