Hi Chuck and all Maury Co. researchers; I would be delighted to post the surnames I am researching in Maury Co - if I only knew what they were! Let me explain. My mother's father had two sisters, Ethel Mae & Lorene "Reenie" POOLE b. 1909 & 1913 respectively, in probably Cheatham Co., TN. He (James Claude POOLE) was born 9-24-1911 in Ashland City, Cheatham Co and died 6-1977 in San Diego Co., CA. Ethel, the oldest married Clifford ABERNATHY, who served as the Chief of Police in Nashville, Davidson Co. during the 1930s until sometime in the 1960s or so and they had four children; Joyce, Jackie, Bill? & Pam ABERNATHY with Joyce & Jackie both born during the 1930s, Bill in the 1950s and Pam sometime after Bill?. I have recently learned that Ethel is deceased and Clifford is in a nursing home. Joyce died of cancer in her early 40s I believe and I have no further info on the other children. My Maury Co connection however comes from the younger sister Reenie who assumedly married in the early 1930s to a man who eventually was the owner of an auto dealership in Columbia, Maury Co. and then one of (if not the) first drive-in movie theaters in Maury Co. It was named the Dan-Dee Drive-In in honor of his and Reenie's twins, you got it - Danny & Dee. They also had an older son named Richard better known as Dicky. This husband of Reenie's apparently loved cars and loved to drive but could not stand to be passed by another vehicle. In the early 1950s this led to his death in an accident where I believe he lost control of his vehicle while trying to stop another from getting by and in front of him. My Grand Aunt Reenie was then married to someone who has only been described as a swindler and a con who managed to gain control of her inherited assets and then flee leaving her without much to survive on. The next I heard from my mother's Aunt was in 1980 on the occasion of my wedding in CA, when I recieved a gift from Nashville TN signed Love, Aunt Reenie HORN. I'd like to think that she recieved the Thank You card I sent to the return address on the package but I have my doubts as I never heard from her again ( not to explain the new surname or shed any light on who she had married either) and have discovered that she died shortly thereafter ( August 1981) in Piketon, Pike Co., OH. I do not know why, how or when she went to OH - only that S.S. lists this as her place of residence at death. If anyone in Maury Co could possibly help me discover the surname of the owner of the Dan-Dee Drive-IN and his children I would be extremely greatful and my mother would be simply delighted to try and get in touch with her cousins, Dicky, Danny & Dee ___? The news that both of her Aunts had passed away has saddened her to say the least and I am hoping that there may be some good news from her cousins. Can you help us? Thanks in advance and the very best of New Year's 1999 to all Maury Co citizens and researchers! Sincerely, Stella A. Marquez BULL4FISH2@aol.com
