In the fall of 1813 a group of Volunteers went south with Gen. Andrew Jackson to battle the Creek Indians. They took the military road south from Columbia through Huntsville AL to Fort Strother (located near present day Birmingham AL). Most of the men were 90 day enlistments. I have read in some history books that there was a misunderstanding between the US Army and these volunteers. The army and Gen. Jackson thought that the men had enlisted to the finish of battle, but the volunteers thought their time was up after the 90 days and returned home much to Jackson's consternation. My ggggrandfather, Job Howell Thomas was one of these volunteers. Hope this helps.... Go VOLS, beat FSU!!!!
