Vikki There were at least three William Porters in Maury Cty in the early 1800's. My William Porter married two ladies named Martha, had several sons by the first Martha. William first lived in Maury, then moved to Wayne Cty where he farmed and lived the rest of his life. He married the 2nd Martha in Wayne County and had another son and a daughter. does this sound like your William?
