Trying to find info on Matthew Clayton and Rebecca Hensley below, John Clayton was one of the early settlers of Lewis/Maury County area. Thanks in advance for any help. John and Nancy Bridges Clayton. John Clayton was born about 1790 in Virginia and died August 10,1864 in Lewis County. Nancy Bridges was born about 1791 and died between 1850 and 1860 in Tennessee. One of their sons was Matthew Clayton married first to Rebecca Hensley born about 1833-1834 and died about 1866-1867, Matthew married second to Mary Elizabeth Bullock in 1867 in Lewis County. They later moved to Arkansas. Three known children of Matthew and Rebecca are - Minerva Clayton, Van Dorn Clayton and Joshua Clayton (might be more). James Mount Sharp born September 30,1830 and died January 19,1905 married on March 25,1853 to Sarah (Sally) Clayton. Sarah was born February 14,1833 in Tennessee and died October 15,1906 in Tennessee. She was the daughter of John and Nancy Bridges Clayton. .Nancy J. Campbell born 1830 died between 1862-1864, married to William Clayton on August 1845 in Lewis County. William was born about 1820 and died between 1880 and 1898 and is buried in Palestine Cemetery on Swan Creek, Lewis County, married first to Winnie Payton on February 23,1842 in Maury County, his parents were John and Nancy Bridges Clayton.
