    3. Gary, I guess my email accent gave me away!! LOL!! Guilty as charged!! I am glad you mention Cathey as a surname..I was hoping that might be the case..A woman online sent me some old family bible records, and she had the name Luther Cathez Koonce, but I don't believe that to be so..You know how the penmanship is on all those old records. I believe it to be Cathey..Then when I got to looking on some Maury Co records, I noticed the name Cathey as a surname several times. I, myself, love to play the name game with my ancestors. More times than not, I have finally made a connection entirely on a strange name..Well really, that is why I believe Aretus Redding Koonce to be my ggg grandfather because my gg granddad Luther had a son names Meredith Redden, Meredith being after her father & Redden being after his...Sounds convincing to me..How about you?? I do so love this genealogy!! Thanks muchly, Joan Morris

    3. Thanks so much Gary & Rick..I will try & check these Koonces out..At least, you gave me a starting place. The spelling of the name to my family is Koonce, but looking in much earlier times, I am finding many strange spellings..Just trying to prove a connection with any of them. The particular Aretus Redding Koonce that I am searching info on seems to have moved from Maury Co Tn to Hardin Co TN..At least I am hoping that is my guy..I know that my gg grandfather was Luther Cathey Koonce born in Hardin Co TN. I am trying to connect Aretus Redding (spelled Koons) as his father...only because I found both names on a Hardin Co Census.. Wonder where they came up with the names Aretus & Cathey (for a boy)?..Possibly Aretus Redding and wife Margaret Barnes Koonce are buried in Hardin Co TN somewhere. I am also trying to search Hardin Co Cemetery records..Someone always told me anyone with the Koonce name are related somewhere down the line..I sure hope so!! Thanks muchly both of you.. Joan Morris

    3. Joan, The following Koonce names are in the book: page 695: Kittrell Family Cemetery: KOONCE, Mary Elizabeth, 5 Apr 1819 - 12 Jan 1857 "Consort of J. H. Koonce" page 777 Hunter Cemetery KOONCE, Henry, 11 Mar 1777 - 10 Jul 1836 Kittrell Family Cemetery is in the Hampshire area, near Mt. Pleasant. Hunter Cemetery is the earliest cemetery in Mt. Pleasant. There are no Koons listed. There is a cemetery site for Maury County on the Internet. The address is http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~maury/cemetery/ It does not have all the cemeteries listed in the County. Only those that have been revisited or transcribed by the administrator of the site and it's contributors. Hope this helps. He was married to Sarah J. and is the father of Wm L and Anne S. I think he may be related to a Wm L Macon who was married in 1871 in Haywood to Martha A Bain. W H Macon died in 1860 of Typhoid fever in Fayette. Have reason to believe that he is actually a Jr and he and his father resided in Maury Co at one point. I believe that Wm Sr may be the son of John Macon, Revolutionary Vet who died in Maury. I'm looking for information about both Wm H Jr's decendents (trying to prove the Haywood connection) and his parentage. Any and all help you can give is much appreciated (I'm in CA and stuck :P yuck ). Documentation greatly desired! Thanks

The family later moved to Hardin Co TN. I have found them listed on the Hardin Co 1850 Census. Redding & Margaret are listed in a book I found at the library with Maury Co marriages..I am really having a hard time trying to find any info on them of any kind. I am assuming Margaret's parents lived in Maury Co also. I have no idea who they were. If any one has any info on the Koonces/Koons/ Kunitz/ Cunitz or the Barnes, I would really appreciate it..I am at a total brick wall. Thanks muchly, Joan Morris sacres@intergate.com
