Is anyone doing research on the McCormick family. My gggrandfather is John Thomas (1869-1935) who married Ellen Bailey in 1887. I am only guessing that JT's father was Crett or Critt because the only census I can find to fit with JT before he married was 1870. If I could get a will or land info that would connect JT to a family member it would be very helpful. Any suggestions? Thanks for your time. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo! Mail has the best spam protection around http://mail.yahoo.com
I have done so much research for folks, and I know Bettye would understand, that when I finally went to Marshall and Maury Co's in June, I had so many names mixed up in my head that I forget that they are not my own family. I swear I must have looked at hundreds of stone's in cemeteries and thought "Hey, I know that name.....where do they fit in?" Then I realize they don't and feel really stupid. Since I started hosting, I have considered each person who researches in Maury and Marshall Counties "relatives". We may not be by blood, but we are by how close our families were at one time, and by what we seek. I understand frustration, but within any family there must be some understanding. Joan, now I remember. You are the one who said "muchly" several times, which ain't exactly a southern word. Well, speaking of dropped messages, I sent you some stuff as a follow-up to a query you made about cemetery records a while back. I don't think you got it, and by now I don't have any idea what I sent.
Dear Joan, et all, The resources available for look ups are very few are far between these days. I am a resource, and you have probably written to me without response here in the last few weeks. My apologies to all for that. I have 3 children, a husband I see once a week if I am lucky due to our work schedules, I work outside my home, I care for my parents etc. I am not usually so far behind, but there is times when things get me swallowed up. If anyone here has sent me a request for look ups, I will get to them this evening and tomorrow. I still have to feed my kids, I have project at work to do, and I have hundreds of photos to go online yet. It isn't that we don't WANT to do it, but we do have other things to do. When I first started the TNGenWeb sites I was a stay at home Mom, now I am not. With the help of Bettye Liberty, she will assist me getting these done, but please try to remember that this isn't our day job. If it was, I would be the happiest person in the world. We all appreciaate your feedback. Thank you. Since I didn't get a request from you, I assume it was not for cemetery records? If so send it again. I might have dropped it for one of the following reasons. You said you e-mailed 2 different people? At the same time? With the same request? If that is true you don't deserve an answer. You send one request to one volunteer at a time, rather than having several people working on the same thing, at the same time. If you do not receive a response in a reasonable time, then you may try another volunteer, but tell them you have already sent a request to another, and when you sent it, please. It has got to the point where we have to ask the other volunteers if they received the same request we did. It is called redundancy; and because so many people are guilty of using that shotgun approach, it slows down the process for innocent people who know better. If you still don't get a response, contact Paulette. Maybe one of us died or something. There are other reasons why you might not get a reply: Check your ISP's spam filter and make sure the response is not trapped there. I have had a lot of unanswered messages because of that. If you are an AOL user and have a list of people to allow to send you mail, make sure you "allow" the person you made the request to. Too many times we do all that work just to get a bounced message back from AOL. If your kids or grandkids use your computer, look there. And, not one of us lives in TN, the Volunteer State. I am a Maury native. Bettye and Paulette are not even natives. And I am ashamed. Gary Hood Marissa, IL http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~genieresources/
Say it "ain't so". You mean that you folks who want to help us are not like me and possibly the one who complained? All I have to do is sit in front of three computers most of four or more days a week. I think it is wonderful that there are people like you, busy, and yet willing to help when you can. I've been looking, now almost 20 years, for some information. If there are those who may have what I want, I believe I can wait a few more days or months if need be. Hello, Is it just me, or does everyone have trouble with volunteers? I can not understand why people sign up to volunteer their time, if they never intend to answer anyone's request!! I was on a Maury Co TN website the other night, and I was lucky enough to find a list of volunteers for certain different area. I thought possibly I could finally get some info on my ancestors from that area. What help that would be!! So, I emailed 2 different people, and nothing!! Does this only happen to me? In all my searchings, I have only had 1 volunteer that actually did help me..and even after she was no longer a volunteer, she continued to look things up for me whenever she had the time.. That girl was amazing!! I just can't understand why anyone would sign up to volunteer their time to help people and then not do it!! I guess this is my pet peeve about genealogy on the computer.. Thanks for letting me vent!! Joan Morris

_Click here: City of Independence, Missouri - Trails Research_ (http://www.ci.independence.mo.us/NFTM/research.stm) Here's a link about some info on wagon trains/trails. I live here and have been to the museum but not to the research room. Hopefully, this link will be of some help. Its an interesting place. Debbie Mack Grandview, MO
I do not know what happened to the records...........probably started fires with them. Hi Yoyce I donot know how they traveled. I got the thought from TV show about the Massacure in AZ where 150 +/_ People were killed by Mourmorns. There were records of who traveled in this wagon train. After reading some of the book " History of Logan County by Stinger" I do not know how people survived the storms of the 1830 s.
