    2. Robert Coleman
    3. Gary, thanks. I did remember that shortly after I sent the message. I have been there but missed the Moses Hanks grave among the high grass. Another cousin, Glenn Gohr who had the Wolverton, Littlefield and other websites had visited there and took pictures. No, I did not know we were related to Elvis. I had heard about Tom Hanks. Wonder which ancestor they came down from. Any proof for them? On Abe's DNA...could they not get it from a long lost envelope? I've heard of such. But that could have been in the movies. Sadly, I have spent too much time on the Littlefield line for my dad's sake and really would like to jump to the Wolverton and Hanks side for awhile. I have one more novel (sequel) to write before I get to them and I better hurry as time is running out. I'll have to break all records of age to get them all researched and written at the rate I am going. But sure is fun to find the good stories about those we descend from. Ann Littlefield Coleman

    2. Gary Hood
    3. If I'm going to be nit-picky I might as well do it right. The proper name is Knob Creek Baptist Church Cmetery. I left out the Church part the 1st time. The other one is still Old Knob Creek Cemetery.

    3. If I remember right, Elvis' ancestor tree is on Rootsweb where all the others are. I don't know which one it was. If you search on him you get a million choices. Best I remember it was like all the rest, sketchy and with no source citations, but there is bound to be some truth to it. I don't remember which Hanks line or anything now. I'm just a Appalachian American (formerly known as hillbilly), Ann, and don't know much about DNA, but from what I heard on CSI or maybe PBS an old envelope would have lost its DNA years ago. Same for his bones or other remains. I could be wrong about that. Maybe a somebody smart will read this and tell us for sure. We have kin who are well educated in all kinds of things. I think the did get DNA from King TUT, or some other mummy, but that is a case where it was well preserved and still had yucky stuff in it. Be sure to include in your book the story about Elijah Newton Hanks, called Newton, and his nephew Elijah Newton, called Elijah. Elijah moved to Kansas and joined the Union Army. Newt stayed in Maury and joined CSA. They met after a battle in KS while both sides were removing the dead from the field. They asked permission to visit a while and it was refused by both sides. They never saw each other again, far as I know. There's more on the site in the Dodson descendants about that, but it is not the full story. There's more somewhere else, but I don't remember where I got it. That was in the days before I realized the importance of source citations. While you're at it, feel free to use whatever source documents you want from my site. If there's anything else I didn't post, you need, that I might have, and can send you for it, holler.

    3. It is not Knob Hill, it is either Old Knob Creek or Knob Creek Baptist Cemetery. There are 2. I don't know which one you mean. Click on the following link http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~genieresources/ Then click on the liink named exactly in the next paragraph. It will be a link on the web page, but not in this message. It is right after Biographies. Scroll down to it. Cemetery Markers Pictures and listings. Then loook at the list and click on whichever cemetery you want. Taylors are buried in Knob Creek Baptist. When the list of names loads, click on the one you want to see a picture of. Use your back button on your browser to return to the list. Use it several times to get back to the main page. If you don't find what you want, click on this link. http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~maury/cemetery/ That will take you to Wayne Austin's site. We had several duplicate pictures and I deleted mine. Find your cemetery and go from there. If you have any trouble there, talk to Wayne. If this does not do the trick for you I don't know what else I can do to help. Do like me, ask your grandkids, or somebody else's grandkids.

    3. I have seen Knob Creek cemetery miscalled as Knob Hill twice in this board this month. It is Old Knob Creek, maybe the most visited small cemetery, and worst kept, in Maury County. The new cemetery is not far from it at the church and is called Knob Creek Baptist Cemetery. That is the proper name for that one, but sometimes informally is is called Knob Creek. Just remember there are 2, and there ain't no Knob Hill.

    3. No one is trying to unsub you Sharon, someone else wants to be unsubb'ed. That person's request may or may not work through the list though. You usually need to back through the first door you came into in order to get out. For those who wish to unsub: http://lists.rootsweb.com/index/usa/TN/maury.html Follow the directions, and our kind and wonderful List Master will take care of you. Hate to see you go because we had a "discussion" that was a bit colorful. First of it's kind I have been involved in on a county list. Have a nice weekend all, what's left of it. 3. Hey, Annie. I've had a lot of help from other people on this board too, and do appreciate it. There's a link to an alternate story of Nancy Hanks' parents on my site, under Hanks Pictures, I think. If you haven't seen it and can't find it let me know and I'll hunt it down. I don't think she was illigitamate, as some claim. I don't know of any DNA research on Hanks. Far as I know, Abe has no living descendants and had no sblings, so it would be impossible to prove that way. Far as I know, unless we dig up his bones, then it would be unlikely after all this time. Elvis Presley was a Hanks descendant. Tom Hanks, the actor, naturally. Many others. Did you know we were kin to Elvis? Worse yet, did I already tell you? I think there is a resemblance to Abe in Granpaw Elijah's picture, also on my site. Back then in Maury County, it was said that Elijah and Abe were cousins. It was said in Ohio and other states, so I think it is true. While I'm at it, I don't usually post family trees, but I did post descendants of Thomas Dodson and Elizabeth Rose, mainly because it makes almost everybody in Maury County and elsewhere kin.. It includes the Hanks from Granpaw Moses on down to my grandparents, and all the other lines I have collected from y'all. (Except for one descendant of Robert Williams and Elizabeth Hanks who never sent me any thing back. You know who you are, but I forgot who you are and don't know how to reach you.) Woolverton, Fitzgerald, Williams, Caughron, Haywood, Taylor, Walters/Waters, ever'body. Name it, we kin. And, I correct you on this because it is important. Somebody else called it that the other day. It is not Knob Hill Cemetery where the Maury Hanks are buried. It is Old Knob Creek, not to be confused with the new one not far from it, which is Knob Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, also called Knob Creek Cemetery, informally. Pictures of most of the stones in the old cemetery are also on my site. All of the Hanks who have stones are pictured. I'm going to post a separate message on that in case not everybody reads this one. It's important.

    2. Robert Coleman
    3. To all who want to be released I say I am sorry. You just might miss some important news down the road. I for one have found many good contacts about the area. Gary Hood has helped so much with the Hanks, Dodson, and other names I am related to. What a shame to give up something that brings you closer to a possible answer. Let me start the road back. Has anyone done DNA on the Hanks family (Moses and Elijah) that are buried in Knob Hill Cemetery to see if we are indeed related to Abe Lincoln. There are so many stories and so many that want to claim him surely someone has tried to find a true answer through DNA. My line goes from: Agatha and Moses Hanks to Elizabeth Hanks and Robert Williams to Agatha Williams and James Wolverton to Nancy Artemesia Wolverton and Luther Rice Littlefield. The story goes that my grandfather John Monroe Littlefield remembers his father and mother (great grandfather Luther and great grandmother Artemesia) walking back and forth through their field in McNairy Co Tenn after Abe Lincoln was shot because he was more than just a President. His mother was said to be Artemesia's grandmother's first cousin. When the artist painted the picture of Nancy Hanks Lincoln that is sold at the Abe Lincoln place in KY they used many of the pictures of my grandmother and her daughters. One is a true likeness of Abe Lincoln. Any thoughts on this? Ann Littlefield Coleman

    3. I recently wrote: <<<<<<<<<<<For my part I have helped only a little but still can do lookups in Fred's wonderful Maury County Cemetery books.>>>>>> After I sent the above,it hit me that I have not offered this in quite a while, mostly because many others are doing it and Some of the info in the books haa also been put up on line. In fact I had already looked up the request for KOONCE/KOONS etc when someone else on the list answered it. Anyway the offer is still there. What I have NOT yet offered is information for anyone who may be looking for CECIL, CROSS, LANIER, INGRAM, and WILLIAMS connections in 19th century Maury County. These are my husband's father's families and I have quite a bit on them. Much of it has been shared by the subscribers to this very list, or to the above-mentioned surname lists. I have never wanted to put my entire FTM up on line, but have shared with a great many folk already and will share with anyone else. Here are the other families I research. Powell, Padgett , Prescott ,Collier,Nixon, Wooten [Cumberland CO NC and Duval Co FL] Adams, Sanders, White, [Spartanburg and Union Co SC] McMullen, Fain, Parramore[ Brooks and Burke Co GA and Hillsboro , Pinellas and Polk Co FL] Wills, Delette, [ Burlington County NJ] McLendon, Braddy, Jenkins [Central Georgia] These are the ones I HaveMOST info on. Hope I can help someone. Regards, Steph Powell Cecil stephaxi@mindspring.com
