Over in Perry Co., about 30 yrs. ago, we had some relatives visiting from Detroit. One day some of the youngun's come yollering to the grown-ups. "Come see what we found in the hog pen; oh come quick!" Afraid it might be one of the ole local copperheads or such, all went running to the hog pen. Arriving amid the excited younguns and seeing nothing wrong, they asked, "What is it you've found?" Pulling them over aways for better look, the younguns said, "Look, we've found a whole bunch of hog eggs!" Some ole hen had laid a bunch of eggs behind a trough in the pen.
thank heavens!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!! for CONFIRMING i AM a YANKEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! lol be sweet debbie
Well, I guess you might consider me a yankee 'cause grits don't figure into my daily menu, but I always thought I was just a Westerner. I've got a lot of southern relatives, though, and I do know what a polecat is! Susan Hurt from AZ, CA and UT
In a message dated 12/1/98 6:58:37 AM !!!First Boot!!!, Demastus@aol.com writes: << You don't "reckon". >> Really got a laugh out of this one. I was in Pennsylvania about 10 years ago and when asked if I wanted to do something I answered by saying, "Yeah I reckon". Well the two sisters and their brother looked at each other and then at me and said, "What?" I said the same thing again. They said, "Well, what does that mean?" It took me awhile to understand what they didn't understand. As for the grits, don't even try to find grits in a PA grocery store. Trust me. LOL Tonya S
As one born and raised in the South(TN & AR),I got a real laugh from your list, especially the polecat. Some years ago my wife and ,I along with my youngest son and his wife, were out for a drive when polecat came into the conversation when the D-in Law mentioned them climbing trees. We were caught by surprise and I guess it showed. She then said"Isn't that why they call them polecats?'We all had a big laugh at her expense and she couldn't understand why. This from an Alabama girl.

YOU MIGHT BE A YANKEE IF... *You think barbecue is a verb meaning "to cook outside." *You think Heinz Ketchup is SPICY! *You don't have any problems pronouncing "Worcestershire sauce" correctly. *For breakfast, you would prefer potatoes au gratin to grits. *You don't know what a moon pie is. *You've never had grain alcohol. *You've never, ever, eaten okra. *You eat fried chicken with a knife and fork. *You've never seen a live chicken, and the only cows you've seen are on road trips. *You have no idea what a polecat is. *You don't see anything wrong with putting a sweater on a poodle. *You don't have bangs. *You would rather vacation at Martha's Vineyard than Six Flags. *More than two generations of your family have been kicked out of the same prep school in Connecticut. *You would rather have your son become a lawyer than grow up to get his own TV fishing show. *Instead of referring to two or more people as "y'all," you call them "you guys," even if both of them are women. *You don't think Howard Stern has an accent. *You have never planned your summer vacation around a gun-and-knife show. *You think more money should go to important scientific research at your university than to pay the salary of the head football coach. *You don't have at least one can of WD-40 somewhere around the house. *The last time you smiled was when you prevented someone from getting on an on-ramp on the highway. *The sound of Fran Drescher's voice doesn't bother you. *Whenever someone tells an off-color joke about farm animals, it goes over your head. *You get freaked out when people in public talk to you. *You don't know what a Piggly-Wiggly is. *You don't "reckon". *You're not "fixin" to do anything. *You don't have any hats in your closet that advertise feed stores. *The farthest south you've ever been is the perfume counter at Neiman Marcus. *You call binoculars opera glasses. *You can't spit out the car window without pulling over to the side of the road and stopping. *You would never wear pink or an applique sweatshirt. *You don't know what applique is. *You don't know anyone with at least two first names (i.e., Joe Bob, Faye Ellen, Billy Ray, Mary Jo, Bubba Dean) *You don't have doilies, and you certainly don't know how to make one. *You've never been to a craft show. *You get freaked out when people on the subway talk to you. *You can't do your laundry without quarters. *None of your fur coats are homemade.
LOL.....too cute! If I post this to all the Yankees who live in my area, I'd never get off the computer! Thanks. Janie in Plano, Tx

I understand Jason Wilson Bosher raised his family in an area called the Gibson Holler area outside Mt. Pleasant, TN. He and his first wife moved to this area from South Carolina. I would love to know the approximate area of Gibson Holler with relation to Mt.Pleasant. Thanks for the information. Pat Barrow pbarrow@swbell.net

Hi everyone...BTW I'm looking for the Coats family of Maury County TN...in particular a Charles Coats, early 1800s and his son whose name I've forgotten off hand...he came to TN from SC...he lived in several counties prior to Maury unless Maury was carved out of other counties...not sure yet... We have a Coats Family Archive at: http://www.rootsquest.com/~coatsfar/ Any original documents I receive go there...I am researching land records and apparently Charles Coats had a will that was recorded in Maury County...looking for the names of his children...TIA for any light anyone can shed on this family...
