Hi I have been at it again. Surfing and collecting links to add to my collection. These are pretty good genealogy links. Databases of ship passenger lists http://iigs.rootsweb.com/immships/ census databases, Texas research and Civil War research http://www.imagin.net/~tracers For those of you who have palatine ancestors this explains what that is http://genealogy.org:80/~palam/palatine.htm The soundex machine...helps with soundex codes http://www.nara.gov/genealogy/soundex/ I got these from another list I am on. I find the ship passenger's list pretty terrific! Maybe it will help you. Good luck and happy hunting! Sooz
This is probably a double-edged sword. If you tell too much on your family, it will offend some of them. However, if you fail to mention some in your data, they will feel slighted. Think we need the wisdom of Solomon on this one.... Charlotte, I know you live in the area so thought this would be interesting. The Jason Wilson Boshers homeplace is in what was formerly Gibson Holler. It is now called Boshears Road. >From Mt. Pleasant take Hwy. 166 towards Hampshire. A very short distance after you passed the Mt. Pleasant city limits you will pass over a small creek (not shown on map). Immediately after crossing the bridge turn right. This area is known as Gibson Holler. The name of the road as been changed to 'Frank Boshers Rd'. Frank Boshers Jr. lives on this road. If this is the family you are interested in, you can contact him at: Frank Boshers, Jr., 1509 Frank Boshers Rd., Mt. Pleasant. Tennessee 38474. This is evidently a decendant. About the decendants...if you find more than are listed on my lines, would appreciate your sharing them with me. Out genealogy line may have a anurism in this period as Jason W. sure had a lot of kids. :-) patb
I am new to your list and am researching the Sanders/Saunders families. At this time I am seeking specific information about Marshall C. Sanders who married Rosa Dodd in Maury Co Aug 1912. He was living at Williamsport, I believe, at the time with parents James and Elizabeth (Lizzie) Sanders and was 17 years old. When he enlisted in the Army WWl he stated he was single.. What happened to Rosa? Have not been able to find a record of a divorce or death. Were there children of this marriage? He remarried Dec 5, 1919 to Mary L. Willey in Hickman Co and had two children. This marriage ended in divorce and he died May 1932.. He was one of seven children and the other six did not have any children. Five of the seven had tuberculosis and died of the disease at rather early age. Any help with the location of Rosa Dodd Sanders would be appreciated. Thank you.. Lee Hoover There was a Rosa Dodd in Hickman Co but that was her married name and no connection to the one I am seeking.
Thanks for your input.
I don't necessarily know that it's a legal matter as much as it's a matter of respecting the privacy of your relatives - would anyone really want their personal info published without consent? Most computer-to-webpage genealogy programs have options to hide living information, therefore just listing names in the family tree and no personal info (birth, marriage, etc.). But, can you imagine what Aunt Fran would do if she opened a book or was surfing the web and found her birthdate along with info all four of her marriages? You wouldn't exactly stay on her Christmas card list. Shawnda
IS THERE A LAWYER IN THE HOUSE? What does the law say about a genealogist listing a living person in his/her published work??? Are we putting ourselves in jeopardy if our work includes living persons? Betty

When I was young, a teen, the boys would ask the girls to go snipe hunting just to get them off by themselves. It was sort of like watching the submarine races. The girls weren't supposed to know what it was but most of us were warned.

Ultimate Family Tree <http://www.uftree.com> To enhance the success of your queries and searches, you can choose from a variety of options. Most USGenWeb Project and WorldGenWeb Project sites offer the option of posting queries, at no charge, on their pages. Post your query at the site(s) most appropriate for your research. RootsWeb is a great source for posting queries. RootsWeb hosts more than 4,900 mailing lists. You can join a list sharing your surname, topic or general interest and then post your query. Researchers helping each other is one of the best tools available. You can find an index of the mailing lists at <http://www.rootsweb.com/~maillist/>. Another alternative for queries is GenConnect. This is a search engine located at <http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/qindex.html>. For surname help, <http://cgi.rootsweb.com/surhelp/> is a site with a searchable database of queries and surname registrations. Asking other researchers for help is a good strategy. When you post your query be sure to give lots of information about who, what, when, where, and why. Take this query for example: "SMITH; anywhere; anytime. Interested in ANY information about anyone named Smith, worldwide." Getting responses from everyone with that name would overwhelm you and is not likely to help find your ancestry. There are probably lots of people who share your surname. Provide enough detailed information so another researcher has a reasonable chance of knowing if there is a connection -- and that you will be able to absorb the information you gain. Be sure to include a name, date, and place. Including these facts near the beginning is helpful. Estimate if you don't know exact dates. Put the surname in capital letters. Many people spend years (and a big piece of their budget) accumulating information, sifting through it, and carefully documenting their history. Why would they in one fell swoop give you everything they know? Genealogy is sharing, cooperatively working on problems, and independently verifying information. Queries that offer information are more successful than "gimme" queries. The "send me everything you know" type of query is likely to go unanswered. Better would be: "SMITH, David family from Juniata County, Pennsylvania in 1780 to Greenfield, Ohio in 1810 and Vincennes, Indiana in the mid-1800s. Related surnames are Bonner and Ghormley. Will share information about this family in Pennsylvania." This query tells something about your project, encourages other genealogists to reply, and offers to share information. One way to start thinking about what information to include is to print a Tiny-Tafel report in Ultimate Family Tree <http://www.uftree.com> and use it to formulate your query. Each line in a Tiny-Tafel has one surname and indicates the earliest date in your database for that surname and the most recent date, along with the locations. Sometimes people simply post their entire Tiny-Tafel as it is a good "snapshot" of their research -- listing all the related names as well. Printing this simple report, paying attention to the content of your queries, and remembering the importance of "share" in sharing information will make your queries successful. A small investment in good queries may result in a surprise present for the holidays. Hi Group - Was wondering if anyone does courthouse lookups. Looking for any court records or inquests into a self-defense claim by W. H. Are there any researchers out there for the JOURNEY surname? Thank you. Ashley
II have an Eliza Alexander who married a Henry Coulter. They settled in Graves County KY about the same time as your Alexanders moved to Calloway Co. At least one of their children was born in Tenn. but haven't as yet tried to find out where. There are several Alexander children listed in a family bible belonging to one of their daughters. One is a Mollie Alexander born April 6, 1844 and another Rose Alexander born June 30, 1844. I don't have a clue as who they belong to. However I feel strongly that some of Eliza's brothers must have been in the area - no proof. There must have been sisters also because I have name other than Alexander and Coulter in this bible listing for births in this same time frame from 1839 - 1840. surnames are Hurt, Boyd and Baker. The first daughter of Eliza and Henry was Harriet L. and the first Son was Nathaniel A. Eliza's birth is listed as May 20, 1797. If I am not mistaken I think I saw and Alexander Cemetery listed in the various cemetery books on Graves Co. If any of this is usable please let me know - Your Alexander could be Eliza's brother. Do you know where in NC Alexander was born? Carol Jones C413531@aol.com

Dear Denise, I will need more information about your query. Are you wanting to hire a professional genealogist to do some research for you or are you wanting a volunteer? Are you more interest in the "History" side or on the "Genealogical" side? What families are you researching? Fred L. Hawkins.
Anna Lee, I don't know your particular lady, NANCY RANSOM PERKINS, but I know the two surnames are prominent in Williamson County and around Murfreesboro. I am a descendant of CAPT. RICHARD RANSOM (1752-1827)who fought in the Revolution. He and his wife, Kesiah Portis had a daughter named NANCY who married NILES NELMS and later died in Georgia. There are other NANCY RANSOMs as well. The PERKINS family is all over Williamson County. There is an e-mail list: TNWILLIA-L. Their website is also worth searching.
