Date: Thu, 17 Dec 1998 15:23:20 -0600 From: "Robert C. \"Bob\" VanDyke" <Bob@VanDyke.net> Reply-To: Bob@VanDyke.ent To: Maury County TN <TNMAURY-L@ROOTWEB.com> I have a friend who is a member of the same Church as the President. He said he learned not to give an opinion of him at church, because both sides will be at each others throats. We need to pray for our military people who are putting their lives on the line. I heard that about 3 hours ago they were moving our troops to the border areas. -- Robert C. Evans Given... I hope you can see from the responses you have been getting that your position isn't very well appreciated...in fact, I am highly offended by your lack of sensitivity. I doubt that you will find much on this list anymore (at least from those of us who have read your e-mails) and it would be just as well for you to unsubscribe. I'm sorry, but I find you much more offensive than the other "gossip" I've seen on the list. Monty
Evans... That wasn't very nice. Just hit your delete key and none of those "gossipy old women" will bother you. Merry Christmas. Monty
I'm amazed and perplexed by the debate over concern for those in Iraq. On the one hand, I think the sentiments are very appropriate. On the other hand, I think the sentiments don't have much to do with the purpose of the list. Regardless of one's position, do comments "pro" and "con" need to be directed to the whole list? Why not send editorial comments directly to the person involved? I don't need to be a part of other people's arguments! Ruth Ann

Send it where it's wanted. >> Then I am even more ashamed. If you don't like the country, leave it. You of all people should understand that not having support from the public can be very detrimental. I would ask that all people that may ask prayer for my husband pray for you instead. You need it more than he does. You sound like an extremely unhappy bitter miserable person. I hope the ghosts of Christmases past, present and future visit you soon. Donna P.S. I won't carry this on any further. I will just continue in prayer for you.
Dont we all have the Christmas Spirit- Humbug!
Are you all a bunch of gossipy old women? Enough prayers. Enough sharing information cry-baby stories. This is supposed to be Maury County Genealogy. Remember?

Remember? >> I just want to say that as the wife (for more than 25 years) of an Air Force man, and sitting on an Air Force base where our planes are leaving and the news media are camped at the gate and where we have planes in the Iraq area 24 hours a day since the gulf war, I am highly offended and saddened by the remarks made in this letter. My husband and the many other men and women in the military are making history - they are the "ancestors" of generations behind them. We have two grandchildren who may someday want to know the history of where there grandfather fought and how and when and why. No, it isn't Maury County. Sometimes we need to be able to bend the "rules" a bit in special circumstances, I believe. If the subject were one of great interest to you, perhaps you would feel differently. I am ashamed that there are people in our country who feel the need to attack people who are asking for prayers for people like my husband and neighbors. I admit that people who are sticklers for rules might not appreciate it, but you can easily hit the delete key. I would just like to say that this is the holiday season and, no matter what our beliefs may or may not be, it is still a good time to stop and remember the importance of being civil to our fellow humans and of being more accepting and of showing peace and good will. If this gets me in trouble, I'm sorry, but I'm very proud of my husband and of the other men and women who are in the military to protect the rights of all of us to have a free country to live in and the freedom to speak. Sincerely, Donna
I am old and not a gossip, however I am a Lady, and felt I shouldn't answer E- mail that I feel didn't deserve a response- You are correct about one statement, this is a genealogy list, however our feelings towards the next generation (those serving our country now) is as important as the valiant men and women of our past. Pat
I don't usually reply to personal comments made on the list. But I for one would like to say that as for "cry-baby stories" and "enough prayers already", that it is the prayers that each and everyone of us say and repeat over and over that keeps us going everyday. I would hate to know where this country would be without those prayers. And I don't believe that relaying ones thoughts about a certain topic is considered "gossip", and we're not all a bunch of gossipy old women. I happen to be 35 years old and don't consider myself old or a gossip.
I checked my books for your names and I didn't find them. I even checked the spellings that were anywhere remotely the same and still nothing. I'm sorry. Mary
Hello: I was not offended. I think if people would think more about God and the things he could do we would be better. The lst thing I say if I get in a problem area is "Please help me God to get through this". It seems all they worry about is sex and things that don't really matter in the end. God Bless you for your opinions and believe me there are more out here that are close to God. Marian
Thanks for the reply, I was trying to add alittle humor to this. I can understand both sides. I was not wanting to upset anyone. Also, let's not forget to pray for those innocent civilians who may be killed or injured in Iraq. I heard yesterday how they will whisper to Americans in Iraq that they are not happy with their leadership, but they live under conditions where there is little they can do about it. And let's also pray for the leadership of our country, both in the White House and in the Congress, during these "interesting" times. (Back when Nixon first initated relations with China, the press was fond of reminding us that there is an old Chinese curse "May you live in interesting times.") You are absolutely right and I apologize for hitting the reply button. It wasn't my intentions of starting anything either. Prayer is what is needed now. God Bless!
I certainly didn't mean for this to get into a political discussion, as we all have our own views. However I do feel those who believe in the power of prayer, would for one moment today whisper a prayer for our men and women in uniform who are following orders and giving their best for our country. (Believe a few of our ancestors paved a way for us) I am also thinking of the families who have been left behind, may they find some peace in knowing "we do care". I don't think he had much chose. It like when you children were small and you threatened to punish them is they didn't behave. If you fail to follow through they think you didn't really mean it. I just pray this action works this time
AMEN!!.Also for our nation as I fear brother Bill may have gotten us into something that we may not extricate ourselves from too easily.Have we become bullies and nearing on international trrorism ourselves?God only knows and the future will reveal. Leo
LIGHTEN UP EVERYONE !!! We have enough going on today with the impeachment proceedings and the bombing in Iraq. We don't need to be arguing over such trivial things as this. It's the Christmas season,,,,,,,,RELAX AND TRY TO ENJOY!
Bob, I was referring to those who get " hysterical" and jam the messages whenever a debatable subject comes up........However, if you want to be the "sap" or "nut" that's okay....I am just "Swinging on the Family Tree" (my logo) but not by the neck !
