    3. In the fall of 1813 a group of Volunteers went south with Gen. Andrew Jackson to battle the Creek Indians. They took the military road south from Columbia through Huntsville AL to Fort Strother (located near present day Birmingham AL). Most of the men were 90 day enlistments. I have read in some history books that there was a misunderstanding between the US Army and these volunteers. The army and Gen. Jackson thought that the men had enlisted to the finish of battle, but the volunteers thought their time was up after the 90 days and returned home much to Jackson's consternation. My ggggrandfather, Job Howell Thomas was one of these volunteers. Hope this helps.... Go VOLS, beat FSU!!!! 3. Hi Everyone, I recently found info. on my Reuben Ross b.1842 in MO. According to census records of Cedar and Cooper Co. MO. Reuben's father was from TN. and that his mother was from AL. A researcher wrote me not long ago that there were many Ross families in Maury Co. TN. I'd be looking for one that moved to MO sometime before 1842. My Reuben named his children, George Emery, James Thomas and Joseph Walter,(just in case of name similarity). Anyone able to give me any clues? 1. [TNMAURY-L] Bastardy Bonds
    2. This was posted to the DUGGER List and thought you might find it interesting. Chuck Demastus ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Bastardy Bonds When the pregnancy of an unmarried woman or the birth of a child to an unmarried woman was brought to the attention of the court, a warrant was issued and the woman was brought into court. She was questioned under oath and asked to give the name of the father of the child. The person she declared to be the father was served a warrant and required to post a bond. If the woman refused to name the father, then she, her father or some other person was required to post the bond. In some cases the mother and the father posted the bond together. If the woman refused to name the father or post the bond she could be punished a jail sentence. The main purpose of these bonds were to insure that the child would be taken care of and not become a burden to the county. I don't think these rules were strictly enforced. There were many more children born out of wedlock than are accounted for by Bastardy Bonds. Family status and influence probably kept a lot of names out of court.

    2. Donna, there is a lady that lives in Hickman Co which is right next to Maury Co and she does a lot of research for me and others. Her name is Kyle Johnson, she does however charge a small fee for doing research but she is very efficient and she goes to the archives in Nashville aleast once a week. Her e- mail is KJohn59310@aol.com, I would give her a try, I have been using her for about 2 years and have had no complaints. Tell her Mary Davis sent ya. Good luck! May God bless and keep each and everyone of us safe during this holiday season. Merry Christmas!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Mary Davis, MAJIPA

    1. [TNMAURY-L] Elijah Mayfield
    2. I have information that an ancestor of mine who fought in the Revolutionary War and died in Maury Co., TN in 1843 also left a will. It is my Christmas wish if possible to obtain a copy of it. Many researchers will benefit from the information. The matter of his wife/wives and children is a brick wall for a great many people. It is hoped that his will would shed light on that. If there is anyone on the list who is in Maury County and has access to copies of wills, I would gratefully pay for copies of it and would be more than happy to exchange lookup help from where I am in Virginia. I wish I could offer more than that, but I can say that there are many people (as well as me) whose lives would be made a great deal happier by that information. So, if there's a good natured, generous "Santa" on this list, I would be extremely grateful for the help. Elijah Mayfield - died 1843 - Maury Co., TN WB-Z-546 Thanks in Advance, Sincerely, Donna
