In 1782 there is no record of anyone living in the area that later becamue Maury Co. It was recognized as Indian Territory. Fort Nashboro had been estalished in 1779 and was still a small outpost in 1782. Thus, I think that you will have to look elsewhere for your George Beard. In Maury County, looking for ANYTHING on: Thomas SIMS, son of George SIMS (died in Maury County about 1818) and Judith CROSS, both originally of Hanover County, VA. George SIMS was a veteran of the Revolutionary war and moved to Maury County after 1808. Thomas SIMS (born in VA about 1785) married Mary WINN (about 1820?) and they had at least 2 sons: Thomas H. SIMS (born 1821), and James W. SIMS (born about 1824). Thomas H. SIMS married Mary TATUM and James W. SIMS married Sarah J. TATUM, who may have been sisters. The only real documentation we have for any of this is the 1850 census of Bedford County, TN, where we found the families of Thomas H. SIMS and James W. SIMS, who is my wife's great-grandfather. (I just love "researchers" who make lots of assertions, then provide zero identification of their sources and absolutely no documentation for their "facts"!) We are trying hard to verify and document this data, and would appreciate any assistance. We have been unable to locate the SIMS-TATUM marriage records or the probate for either Thomas SIMS or George SIMS.
