The phone book gives several Penningtons in Maury County but not a Jane. There is a J. Pennington but, from your message it sounds like Jane has also died, as you use the past tense. Do you have any other information about her, her married or single name, etc. that might help locate her? By the way, when I first saw your e-mail coming through I thought that you were my good friend, Jane Luna, who lives here. Do you know her? She is now about out of the genealogy business, I think, but published the LUNA book a few years ago. Where do you live? I am working on a data base of Maury County Researchers for our Maury County Historical Society webpage and would like to include locations too. Lottaluck. Fred.

He says in the introduction to the chapter that 16 is one of the routes in the City of Columbia. Further than that, he gives no other indication as to the part of the city. I do not know that a map showing these routes exists. At least, I have never seen one. Not much help, I'm afraid, but at least you have found a name that might lead you to further proof on down the road. Lottaluck. Fred Hawkins

Dear,HARVEY "WT"LUSK, I am interested in the name Fox, that you wrote that was in your data base. Does a Dr.(Dock) Allacemis Fox (1854-1939) ring any bells He married a Sarah Catherine Shellenberger(1857-1932) Supposely rumored to be full -blooded indian. Don't know for sure. I really don't know where he came from. Or who his father and mother where. If this sounds familar let me know. Thanks. kaylynn@columbus-ks.com

CEMETERY AND MORTUARY RECORDS (Part 1 of 2) by Brian Mavrogeorge, Senior Development Manager The Learning Company <bmavrogeorge@palladium.net> Americans rely heavily on the censuses for family group information. But when searching for children or women who lived prior to 1900 in the United States, these records are not reliable. Infant mortality was high, and children who were born and died between census enumerations don't appear on the census. If you are looking for a woman in the U.S. who died before the 1850 federal census enumeration, the only information you'll find under her own name might be on her tombstone or in a cemetery card file. Tombstone inscriptions, cemetery records, or undertaker records might be the only tangible evidence of these lives. The Family Tutor for Basic Genealogy Records <http://www.uftree.com>, by Johni Cerny, offers this advice. Start your cemetery search by finding the names and addresses of churches in areas where your ancestor may have died. The National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution has a Web site for locating cemeteries: <http://www.sar.org/geneal/cemtmaps.htm>. Churches with affiliated burial grounds usually kept records of interments in their ecclesiastical registers (sometimes called "Sexton's Books"). The local minister might be able to tell you where these registers are now -- in the original meetinghouse, a central church archive, in the possession of the heirs of the then-presiding minister, or at the office of the current minister. Also, thousands of church burial registers have been microfilmed and can be found in genealogical collections, or at the LDS Family History Library and Family History Centers. * * * * * PERMISSION TO REPRINT articles from ROOTSWEB REVIEW is granted unless specifically stated otherwise, PROVIDED (1) The reprint is used for non-commercial, educational purposes. 1. [TNMAURY-L] Re: Walker
    2. Jon & Jeannette Scott
    3. Hi, Linda. My Walkers are Francis Ann Walker, who married Samuel Alderson Baker August 14, 1817 and William Walker, who married Maltida Caroline Anderson. Both lived around the Eastern section of Hickman County and, I believe the Walkers may have been in Maury county as well. I believe Francis and William to be siblings and their father was Thomas Walker but don't have proof. I have looked briefly through my files and do not find information on your Randolph and Elizabeth or Lysander W. Walker, but will look further.Would definitely like to share. One source I have does have Thomas as married to Sarah Coleman. This source also has Thomas Coleman, Jr. as married to a Clarissa White (daughter of William White). I mentioned this because I am also researching some Whites of Maury County and would like more information on the family of William White. I am very interested in any connections that exist between the Walkers, Colemans, Whites, Andersons and the Gordons. Thanks for your responding to my posting and good luck with your search. Jeannette.

    1. [TNMAURY-L] John S. WADDLE - 1820
    2. Sheila Anthony
    3. John S. Waddle is listed in the 1820 Maury Co. Census. I am seeking any information on this family, especially the names of the 9 children and his wife. Does anyone have land docs, cemetery records, church records, anything to share? John S. Waddle possibly was a member of the Mecklenburg NC branch, although I have been unable to find a direct link. I am attempting to determine if he is the father of my GGGrandfather, Archibald Howard Waddle b.11 Nov. 1817 in TN m. @1840 Haywood Co. TN d.6 Feb 1899 AR. Archibald's son, Dr. John Smith Waddle b. 1849 in Haywood Co.TN, might have been named for the Maury Co. John S. Waddle referenced above. I am in touch with Leta Horine, a member of this list, who has given helpful, but not dispositive info. Would appreciate any other leads.

I am seeking information on Francis Ann Walker who married Samuel Alderson Baker (August 14, 1817) and on William Walker who married Maltida Caroline Anderson. Both of these families lived in Hickman County near the Maury County line. I believe William and Francis to be siblings and that their father was a Thomas Walker and that they may have been in Maury Co. around Williamsport area earlier (no proof or documentation yet).Good luck in your search. Jeannette.

    2. In a message dated 01/06/99 4:31:51 AM Pacific Standard Time, stephens@clarksville.net writes: << Researching the following Maury County surnames: BINKLEY - BOOKER - CASKEY - CRAIG - CRAWFORD - CREWS - DABBS - DANIELS - DEMASTUS - DIAL - DILLEHAY - DODSON - DOOLEY - DUGGER - demastus@aol.com >> Hi Chuck - Don't know why I am just now picking up on your BINKLEY line of research since your tagline accompanies most Maury Co. postings - I guess my powers of observation need some refining! Anyway, I am currently researching my POOLE ancestors who were primarily found in Cheatham, Davidson & Sumner Cos with the exception of a GrandAunt Lorene "Reenie" POOLE b. 3-17-1913 in Cheatham Co. d. 8-1981 in Piketon, Pike Co., OH whose first marriage was to an individual who owned businesses in Columbia, Maury Co., TN. His surname is unknown but they had three children born in Maury Co: Richard "Dicky" and twins, Danny & Dee. How does this relate to BINKLEY? Lorene had an older sister; Ethel Mae POOLE ABERNATHY b. 1909 d. ? in Nashville, Davidson Co., TN whose husband; Clifford ABERNATHY had a sister who had a daughter Barbara, whose married (I believe) name is BINKLEY. Confused? Sorry. I know that this is major straw grasping here but I wonder if the two BINKLEY lines are related and if so, I am hoping that you will be able to help me find out the surname of my mother's cousins Dicky, Danny & Dee. Mom would greatly love to be able to contact them after only recently learning of their mother's death (through my online research) as well as that of their Aunt Ethel POOLE ABERNATHY. I would greatly appreciate any assistance or leads offered and really would like to compliment you on the job you are doing for Maury Co and those researching there. I can imagine what a demanding position it can be at times and appreciate your volunteerism. Thanks again, Stella BULL4FISH2@aol.com

    1. Re: [TNMAURY-L] Roll Call: ALEXANDER, FARIS
    2. My GGGGrandmother was an Alexander. I know that two of her children were born in Tennessee but where is the mystery. She married a Henry N. Coulter-have no clue as to where. she was supposedly born in Lincoln Co. GA and he in Catawba Co. North Carolina. They settled in Graves Co. KY some time in the 1830's. I have other Alexander names in her daughter's bible so more of her family was in the Jackson Purchase area. If you would like to share info-all I really have are the names in the Bible-I would definitely be interested. And if anyone reading this has any info on either the Alexanders or Coulters please e-mail me. Also looking for information on a Robert Calvert that was in Maury Co. from about 1804 to 1829. He married a Nancy Porter and several children were born there. Any info would be greatly appreciated as he is my brick wall. Carol Jones C413531@aol.com

    2. Connelly, Charles W, Jr (Chuck), SITS
    3. Can someone help me with a question on the 1906 Maury County directory that I found in the Century Review book. There is a W.L. Connelly(16) that I believe is my g-grand father. The question is, are the numbers listed beside the names postal routes or some other type of indicator that would give me and idea in what part of the county he may have lived at that time. Thanks for any help. Charles Connelly http://www.geocities.com/BourbonStreet/7520/

    1. [TNMAURY-L] Roll Call: ALEXANDER, FARIS
    2. T Hurt
    3. I'm repeating my request for Alexander and Faris data. There were many ALEXANDERs and FARIS, FARRIS, FERRIS, FARISS families in Maury County, but the ones I'm interested in moved to Calloway County, KY about 1833/4. > >Is anyone researching Alexander? Andrew Alexander, b. 18 Nov 1795 in NC, married Leah Faris, b. 21 Aug 1801 in SC, in Maury County, TN, 29 Apr 1819. >They had six children while they lived in Maury County: Eli Farris, Elizabeth Jane, Mary Ann, Obediah Oliver, John M. F. and Elizabeth Malone. >The family moved to Calloway County, KY between 1833 and 1837 where two more children were born. Who were Andrew's parents? Did any others of his family go to Calloway County about the same time? (There is a mysterious Baxter Alexander.) How was Leah Faris related to the more commonly known Fariss family of Maury County? Willing to share info. Susan Hurt thurt@redrock.net >> >> >

    1. [TNMAURY-L] Tennessee Hensleys, etc.
    2. G Stephens
    3. I have two marriages in Tennessee that I need to know if anyone has accounted for - John Hensley to Sarah Baker on November 24, 1830 in Lawrence County, TN John A. Hensley to Mary Underwood on July 6, 1840 in White County, TN Also my John A. Hensley born about 1812 in Tennessee, married first time about 1832-1833 probably in Hickman or Maury County, TN. (oldest son was born about 1834). First wife died between 1845-1850, did not show up in 1850 census. John A. Hensley married again on May 14, 1859 to Eliza Jane Crowell. Does anyone have any marriages for John Hensley's between 1830-1834 that are not accounted for? William Hensley has Capra Quillins as John A. Hensley's first wife but since this is not one of the people he is most interested in does not know where he got the information. (Capra Quillens ca 1812 - 1850) Does anyone know if there is a list for Hickman County Tennessee, and how to get on it?
