Hi Kenneth, Do you know who were the parents of your Elizabeth? My guess is that our lines cross one or two generations back. I have a Hugh LEEPER (LEIPER), Jr. born in 1798 in NC (but maybe the western part of NC now TN, and died in 1818 (?). His father, Hugh LEEPER (LEIPER) , Sr. may have been born about 1775/80 in Virginia, and seems to have come west to TN very early. Present day's Leiper's Creek appears named for him. First of all does anyone know where Taylorville is? and second, does anyone have access to Maury County census records that might show any of these Lawsons? Hello Charlotte, I am trying to find information on the above -- my great-great-grandparents. John was born in ~1793 in Georgia or South Carolina; Mary is believed to have been full-blood Cherokee born in 1801 in North Carolina. They had 11 children, all born in Maury County -- the first in 1816 and the last in 1843. The two boys were named Jesse (b. 1828?) and John (b. 1840) Mitchell. My ancestor was the second last: Rowena Clementine, born in 1841. The girls were named: Cynthia, Minta (m. Calvin Latta in 1842), Susan (m. Wm Stewart 1848), Nancy, Mary, Sarah, Caldonia, Rowena Clementine, and Mary E. I would be very grateful for anything you might find for me on the Mitchells. The other line in the area that I am also interested in is Wm C Crawford (b. 1812 or 1813 maybe in Giles Co). His son Wm P married Rowena and they then lived in Rutherford Co. I'm desperately looking for any information on Burton and Anna Warfield and their children Minnie and Kaiser of Maury County. All I know now is that Burton was in the Civil War - I think a Lt. in the 2nd Bat. TN Cav - and that he was a prisoner of war from sometime in mid 1863 until the end of the war. His mother was Mary Tharasher McCollum. She was the daughter of John Thrasher and probably Ruth Cloud, both of whom came from Quaker families in the northwestern area of NC. Most of the Thrashers I ran across were Quakers. The Encyclopedia of American Quakers (vol 1 I think) has the NC Quaker notes etc. in it. If anyone is researching the Thrashers, it may be of some interest. Isaac McCollum has several children, one of whom was named Thrasher and who was one of his children in TN. Most were born there and I believe Thrasher was. There may be some connection--perhaps some of the NC Thrashers moved west with Isaac and his family. dotti
