Hello Charlotte, I have been reading all of the request that you have been getting to do look-ups from other folks and I was wondering if you could do one for me. I am look for a link in my DAVIS line. I know that my gggrandfather John T DAVIS was born in Maury Co , and he died at the Hermitage in Nashville. I have not been able to put him in a family (with parents). I have him on the 1870 &1880 census but I can't get him any farther back than that with a family. He was born in 1847 and married Nancy McDonald. If there are any mention of DAVIS in your book please let me know. And thank you very much, not just for me, but for everyone you have helped. Mary
Stella; No problem as I haven't gotten to your request yet. I still have abt 20 ahead of you.I am glad that I could help some of the people with their research. When I received the book and saw how many name's were indexed I felt quilty not offering to help other's. I know what it's like to hit that stone wall and how it feel's when something finally break's. Good luck and happy hunting. Charlotte
I'm so terribly sorry Charlotte, I just now as I was retyping the subject line on my last posting, fully comprehended what is contained in the Maury Co review book that you are so generously providing lookups in. THE CENTURY IN REVIEW, MAURY CO., TN 180 -1907. Boy do I feel dense....... The Dan-Dee Drive-In wouldn't have even existed during that time period, more like the 1940's - 1950's - so of course there will be no reference to it in your volume. I am so sorry for the thoughtless request and hope that you get this in time to explain things and before you go to any trouble to try and find something on it. Thanks for all that you do for Maury Co. researchers, I know that it is much appreciated. Sincerely, Stella BULL4FISH2@aol.com

If it is too much to ask for - please let me know that as well. It seems as if the more inquiries I post on this individual, the less response I receive and I'm puzzled by this. "Al"___? was fairly prominent in his time in that area from what I have been told and yet any questions I have posted concerning his family & life are met with silence. Is there something surrounding him that I should [or perhaps shouldn't] know? Hope you can help. Thanks so very much, Stella BULL4FISH2@aol.com

HI Did any of you Gillespie family live in Tennessee? I have a Jane Gillespie who's father was, I think James Gillespie.. She was traveling with her family on there way to Tn., and was abducted by Indians.. They let her and some of her children go.. I'm not sure of the story right off the top of my head.. but it went something like that. I think somebody named Nancy Ward helped them escape.. Does any of this ring a bell? Wil be anxious to hear from you. Thanks Shelia
I would like to talk to Kay Murphree. My great grandmother was Nora Marie Murphree. Please reply. Thanks Gostseeker

In fact, I buried my wife on the top of the hill in that beautiful rural cemetery in September and have a spot reserved for me which someday will be occupied. It is well-kept by a cemetery association of which my brother-in-law is a member. I do not know of another Rock Springs in Maury County but there is a large cemetery with that name in Nashville. The one in Maury Co. was originally the Barker family cemetery--my wife's family--but when the property was sold to the Rummage family it was noted in the deed that one acre of land was dedicated for a cemetery. By that time others from the community had been buried there and it became a community cemetery and has continued to be used by all those who desired to use it. The cemetery is located just off of Sowell Mill Pike in the north- eastern section of Maury County. The community no longer has a store or school and about the only thing that holds it together as a community is Rock Springs Baptist Church. Many new homes have been built in the neighborhood over the past few years as a result of the expansion of the county due to the arrival of Saturn Corporation. About the Scotts, I have no first hand information about them since I am not a native of this county. My wife's mother talked about them from time to time and said that for a couple of years her father rented and worked the Scott farm, which is located not far from the church and cemetery. (The church and cemetery are about a quarter of a mile apart.) As you note, CENTURY REVIEW OF MAURY COUNTY has an article about the W. F. Scott family. There are SCOTTS all over Maury County but I have no information as to any possible connection. I know that there was a Scott's Mill that functioned as one of the last grist mills in the county. It is gone now but you can still see the foundations of it in the southern part of the county. There are a total of 18 Scotts listed in CONFEDERATE SOLDIERS AND PATRIOTS FROM MAURY COUNTY. I am sure that you could dig up much about the SCOTT family if you could visit our library, courthouse, etc. I hope that this informatin helps a little. Lottaluck. Fred Hawkins.
Caroline,, The book is still available from Southern Press or from J&W Enterprises. They are on the WEB.
