HI! Saw you posting on the Maury Co. board. George Washington Hinson b. 16 April 1853 d. 27 June 1924 m. 2nd Ziphia Coosenberry 16 Mar 1913 in Lewis Co. George's father was George Punky Hinson m 2. Mary Black & they had one son George Washington Hinson. George Punky came from Montgomery Co. NC about 1813 with his brothers, John "Short Johnny" (my ancestor) , Joshua, Meredith & Merrill (twins) and a sister Fannie. George Punky m. lst. Betsy Upton in NC in 1811. George homesteaded on the head of Short Creek in Perry Co., TN and built a log cabin, a part of which is still standing (about 1940 or 50's) and is occupied by a great-grandson Woods Hinson. I have quite a bit more Hinson history, my father was raised on Bushy Creek in Hickman Co. If you are interested my cousin , Brenda Willis Coleman, www.papamike.bigriver.net - has compiled several books on Lewis Co. records. I have several other cousins who have more history than I do. Before the Montgomery Co., the family can be located in Anson Co. NC. Let me know if this is the Hinson group you are working on. Wilda Hinson Costello wrote: > > Monty; > > Hello there cousin ! Hello Jeanine: I noticed in the message that you send to Patricia that you mentioned a GODWIN and SPARKMAN marriage. Their first names did not fit in with my family but I do have a Maury Co., TN family that are SPARKMAN and my gggrandmother Martha Penelope (don't know maiden name) was first married to a J.T. SPARKMAN and her second husband was Dr. Samuel GODWIN. Martha and J.T SPARKMAN had 4 children, (all I have are their initial, except for my ggrandmothers name) EE, Mary Eleanor, L, and EM. Martha did not have any children with Dr. GODWIN. Is there possibly anything about my SPARKMAN line in the Century Review of Maury Co.TN. Also, my ggrandmother Mary Eleanor SPARKMAN married Robert Lee ASHTON of Maury Co, TN. Thanks for any assistance you might could give me. Marsha, read your message, and I too am related to Sparkmans and Godwins. James T. Sparkman was born 16 Aug 1836, a son of of Seth C. Sparkman and Rebecca Latta. Dr. Samuel Winn Godwin, son of Seth R. Godwin and Nancy M. Vestal, was born 19 Feburary 1831 and married Martha (Dodson) Sparkman and second Nancy Littleton. Dr. Godwin died August 1907 in Obion Co TN. Hope this helps. Bill Timmons
I would appreciate any information on David Paul Tuley and his wife, Emily Wright Tuley. They are both buried somewhere in Maury County. Both seem to have died in 1885. Thanks for any help. Charlie in Texas
The other day I placed a query as to the location of the Dunlap Old Stand Cemetery. It had been referenced in an obituary that I had of a Maury County native. Thanks to those that responded and one person had the right answer, but I don't remember the name. Thanks. According to the funeral home that handled the arrangements, Dunlap Old Stand Cemetery in in Shady Grove, Tn. Claude
yes,the names of Anne and Nancy seem to be used interchangably some places, and she is one. She is my 3g gmother. Catherine
Looking for parents of William Jackson (Jack) Craig, born 1818 Maury Co.; moved to Giles Co. c. 1840, where he died 1884. He was married first to Susannah Johnson (Johnston); 2nd to Virginia B. Abernathy in 1850. I have found no proof, but believe his father was William Craig, who was given 213 acres on Carters Creek by Ezekiel Polk in 1807. This William Craig died 1830 in Maury Co. I believe he came to TN from Mecklenburg Co., N.C. along with Polks, Campbells, Lattas. Ruth Cunningham
