    3. Still working on my husbands HASTINGS of Red River Co TX. My husbands maternal grandfather was: Paul Twyman HASTINGS b. 22 Dec 1907 Bagwell TX. He was son of Benjamin Franklin HASTINGS and Sarah Alice ROBERTSON. I am looking for record of him so i can know his name-maybe a birth record of his Joseph or Joseph's bro William b.ca.1845 Maury Co., TN (if any) would show parents names. Paul Twyman m. Mable Juanita BURRIS. They m.1926 in Antlers, Pushmataha Co., OK. They lived and had 3 dtrs there. Sybil, Billie Fay, and Edith. Edith was my husband's mom. In Maury County, Tennessee Will Books, A, B, C-1, D,and E, 1807-1832, p. 47, Maury court records on estate: "John Nelson, deceased, petition for distribution of estate. Mary Nelson is the widow of John Nelson, Senr., deceased, and other petitioners are children and legal heirs of John Nelson, Senr., deceased, who died intestate. Petitioners: Mary Nelson; Elizabeth Uland, widow of Thomas Uland, deceased, formerly Elizabeth Nelson; Abram Trible and Polly his wife, formerly Polly Nelson; Sally Powel, widow of Charles Powel, deceased, formerly Sally Nelson; William Powel and Nancy, his wife, formerly Nancy Nelson; Mathew Nelson; William D. Nelson; James Nelson, Junr.; Pleasant Nelson. Swan Hardin, Edward W. Dale, Esquire, and Major John Brown appointed committee to report to January term 1823. Follows division. Dated 27 January 1823." The 1811 court case I mentioned was from Records of Maury County, Tennessee Minute Book A, 1810-1815. I have something from a Maury Co. book on bible records about Pleasant Nelson's family from that family's bible and other sources. And from a Maury Co. book on military service, there is family info on Pleasant Nelson and William Daniel Nelson. It confirms that William Daniel Nelson was b. in Halifax Co. Va. Email me if you'd like copies of any of these.

    2. All I can do is further muddy the water. I have an ancestor born about 1805 named Martha E. (Johnston) Barnett who married Hugh Moore Barnett in 1819, Mecklenburg Co., NC and relocated to Maury County, but have not found any cemetery record on this family. Believe Hugh & family shows up on some of the early censuses of the county. Wayne Austin

If you could point me to any records to better trace John Nelson & his family back to Virginia or to Matthew Nelson's family, I'd appreciate it. I've found the family was in Maury Co. TN court records at least as far back as 1811, when John Nelson Sr. sued someone who assaulted John Jr. And of course, the 1823 court records on the estate of John Nelson Sr. Common names like his can be really hard to trace.

    3. The following Johnston names are taken from the book, "William Johnston of Isle of Wight County, Virginia and His Descendants, 1648-1964, A Genealogical Study of One Branch of the Family in the South", by Coy K Johnston and Hugh B Johnston. I descend from Lewis JOHNSTON (son of Amos JOHNSTON and Elizabeth PRESTON) who was recorded in the 1820 Maury Co TN census. The information below is abstracted from the Addenda, Page 351. The following Johnstons appear in the early records of Maury County and it is unknown what their relationship is to each other or to my Lewis JOHNSTON. Nathan JOHNSTON William JOHNSTON, married Susanna FRIERSON in 1824 William A JOHNSTON Simon JOHNSTON Alexander JOHNSTON George JOHNSTON, married Fanny ESTIS in 1821 Robert JOHNSTON Mathew JOHNSTON Jane JOHNSTON, married Daniel HUDDLESTON in 1817 Abner JOHNSTON, married Polly MOBLEY in 1817 Thomas G JOHNSTON, married Elizabeth WIT in 1818 Moab JOHNSTON, married Susan DAVIDSON in 1826 If anyone can provide further information on these Johnstons and how they may be related, it would be much appreciated! 3. Stephanie, I do not know anything about the Cecil Family Cemetery but I do know that there are a few graves in the Lawrence Cemetery with only rock markers with no inscription but not many. Yes people still are buried there. The Hunter Cemetery has many unmarked graves. The only part of the Hunter Cemetery that is still in use is the African-American session. For years the Hunter Cemetery was badly neglected and many of the markers were completely destroyed. Several years back it was cleaned up and many of the tombstones were dug up and unearthed. Many were beyond repair though. So many graves that were once marked are no longer marked. Maybe someone will come along that can tell you more. Hello .....Can't remember if I have asked this before. Would there be any newspaper obits for Maury County [especially Mt. Pleasant] for the years 1890 through 1892? My husband's grandparents, SAMUEL SHELBY CECIL AND MARY CROSS CECIL died there in those years. I have Fred Hawkins Jr's wonderful Cemetery Books and there is a mention in there of Sam's dying of Consumption in 1892 but does not say where he was to be buried, which is my search project. Sam's parents and 2 sisters are in Lawrence Cemetery but neither he nor Mary are mentioned there. Mary's mother Mary Jane Lanier Cross 1828-1853 is in Hunter Cemetery but no mention of her or of her Father ,John Finch Cross, who may have been a war casualty. I would really love to find where this couple was laid to rest. Also can anyone tell me if there are UNUSED gravesites in either Lawrence or Cecil Family Cemeteries.? I have my ANNIE NELSON [ABT 1797-ABT 1843] ,as a daughter of one John Nelson b. abt 1756 ? possibly VA , d. after 1840 in Coffee co TN. 2. Greetings List I was at an antique show in Huntsville, AL and came upon a dealer who had Maury County items from the Old A.B. Sowell & J. P. Johnson family. Is anyone out there interested in memoriabilia on these families in the 1890-1930 times frame? Had many papers of these families who (Sowell's) were publishers of the Maury Democrat for a time. You'll have to answer quickly because the dealer will be moving on after tomorrow (weeekend show). Also he is asking a price on the items when most of it would better serve the public if it were in the Maury Archives. Things like a 1924 Corporate Tax Return on the Maury Democrat which list a bunch of people and historical facts. These items will be lost to hoarding collectors who only put a non-historical value it. Some of the things I saw: 1 Stock certificates owned by the Sowell family 2 Bank Notes to Maury Bank from the Maury Democrat. 3 Records of the Induction of Whos Who in America in 1943-1944 year for Honorable AB Sowell. 4 History of the First Baptist Church of Columbia - Small bit of writing to 1925. I bought this but don't really know how unique it is 5. Lots of Receipts in the 1890s thru 1940s I bought a few of the things but anyone interested in the bulk of this material let me know and I will detail out what is available. The dealer allowed me to copy a few of the materials with a Digital Camera and I can make that available for free.

Lillie MACK is the niece of my Nathan A. W. PERRY and granddaughter of James Willis PERRY. It's nice to round out the family a bit. I was told by Margaret MACK that Gene FOUTS was very knowledgeable about the MACK and FOUTS line, and I guess you'd be well-versed, too, if I read your messages correctly. You're his granddaughter? Do you know anything of the PERRYs, Lillie MACK's grandparents? I've gotten such conflicting data on them. Any clarification would be wonderful! Cheers, Laura

Surnames: Woodall Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/0hB.2ACI/294 Message Board Post: Looking for any info on this person. He is my gr-gr-gr-grandfather. He was married to Francis (Roser, Rosen, Brasher, Brashier ??). Francis was born in GA but I don't know where Elias was born. They had a son named Lewis/Louis born in Walker County, GA between 1843 and 1847. Elias supposedly died when Lewis was around 5 years old. At age 8 Lewis was bound to a Thomas Wilson in Jackson County, AL. I've already found the 1860 census showing that at age 13 Lewis was there. I've seen a reference to a circular letter in the Maury County historical society that regards a "confession of robbery by Elias Woodall" I'm curious if this is my Elias. Any help with this family would be greatly appreciated.

    3. Tina, Nannie Lou and Emmanuel were married in 1866 in Maury County, Tennessee. Nannie died in 1881. Like you said probably not the same ones. Hopefully you will find something that will help you soon. Mine was married to David Olingo from Wm. Co but she does disapear off of the census records of his household so I assume that she died.(She is buried in the same cemetery as he is). ..I doubt that this is mine but then again you just never know!!
