If your ancestor was associated with Columbia, Maury Co., TN in 1864, then there would be a better chance for a connection. I suspect that a look at the 1860 and 1870 Censuses for Maury Co., TN would help. The only child mentioned was R. E.'s sister, Sallie. She should be in the 1860 Census with her parents. Perhaps someone could do us a look up. Best regards, Hugh

    2. According to the 1905 letter from Henry R. MIZNER to R. E. ANDREWS-- <<In the cemetery at Columbia there is a tomb stone with the inscription, "He excaped the bullets of the enemy, to be assassinated by a cowardly pup." The Court said he got his deserts. I don't think he ever had an enemy under fire.>> The deceased was a soldier in the 14th Michigan Volunteer Infantry Regiment Does this 1864 tombstone still exist? If so, whose is it? Are there any dates? Any help here would help a lot. Best regards, Hugh

    1. [TNMAURY-L] ANDREWS and MIZNER in Jan 1864, Columbia, TN
    2. Below is an extract of a 1905 letter from Henry Rutgers MIZNER to R. E. ANDREWS regarding a CW incident involving Mr. ANDREWS' father in Jan 1864 in Columbia, TN. I would like to make contact with descendants of this ANDREWS family as I am a descendant of Henry R. MIZNER. Best regards, Hugh _____________ T R U E C O P Y-Extract 61 Pitcher Street Detroit, Mich. November 14th, 1905 Mr. R. E. Andrews, My Dear Friend, I thank you very much for the kind expressions contained in your favor of the 10th Inst. You can form but a faint idea of the terrible time through which I passed in saving your Father's life. One afternoon two Irishmen, who had been drinking, got your father down upon the floor of the Sutler's store, and were beating him when he pulled a 4 inch colt, killed one and wounded the other. This was promptly reported to me and I hastened to the scene. I found the citizens sympathizing with the soldiers and encouraging to violence. I went at once to the family who were in greatest distress, your noble sister Sallie throwing her arms about me, and imploring me to save her Father's life. I can never forget it. It will be 40 years in January. I threw a guard around your house, a three story brick, just outside the Court House Square upon the road to Pulaski. About 8 in the evening I became satisfied that my men would attack your home and I went at once to the family, where I found four or five of my officers. I had not been in the house to exceed five minutes, when the front door was burst open and in came two hundred men armed with revolvers, and wild with rage. I sprang upon the leaders and struggled with them up two flights of stairs before I succeeded in stopping them. I was unarmed. Arms would have done me no good. I depended upon the power of my language and my influence over them. While on the second floor a shot was fired striking the casing of the door near me and undoubtedly intended for me. Had I been killed nothing could have saved your Father's life and the building would have been gutted. No one on earth could have controlled my men but me. They did not expect to find me in the building. Thirty minutes later, on a bright moonlight night I walked across the square with your father and my small group of officers and placed him in the jail. My men were upon the walk but did not interfere with me. The next morning with a mounted, armed escort I got him safely to the depot and to Nashville. ************************************************************* s/ Henry R. Mizner Brigadier General U. S. Army ___________________ Note: The "will be 40 years in Jan." comment is not accurate as the military record of Brigadier General (then Colonel) MIZNER shows him stationed in Columbia, TN in late 1863 and 1864 before his Regiment (14th MI Vol Inf) left the area for the Atlanta campaign and never returned to TN thereafter. This incident had to take place in Jan 1864. HH ________________________ END ________________________________

My link http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~rutherfordcemetery/ will take you to Rutherford County Cemeteries Homepage. From there you can go to the cemeteries I have photographed. The whole cemetery is done, with transcription. You can also go to Kim Denny's page, where she is working on Rutherford Northwest, and to lots of other's cemetery pages for their Rutherford County families. No matter where you live, you can do this for your home county. You don't have to have ancestors from there. If every genealogist who uses rootsweb did ONE cemetery and made a webpage and put it online, the entire country would be done in days! If you have Rutherford county family cemetery pictures or a page, I will gladly add it to my site. Together we can photograph all the cemeteries that are still extant. He lived in neighboring Walker County, GA and Jackson County, AL. What I found was a reference to "A circular letter, 1886, contains affidavits from M.E.M. Ellis, Sarah J. Brashears, Wm. F. Hinton, and M.E. Brashears regarding the confession of robbery by Elias Woodall of Allen County, Kentucky." In a collection from a Jill Knight Garrett. Coincidentally I was told about a marriage record for his son, Lewis/Louis Woodall when Lewis was 62 years old that Lewis' mother's name was Francis Brasher Woodall. This marriage record was from Grayson County, KY where Lewis spent most of his adult life after the Civil War. Lewis born in Walker County, GA about 1847 then moved to Jackson County, AL about 1848 then was separated from his family at about age 8 so that could account for the spellings of Brashears vs Brasher. Just trying to find the connections.... I've found Lewis/Louis living with a Thomas Wilson in Jackson County, AL 1860 census where is was said to have been "bound" until he enlisted. I believe I found his mother Francis Woodall in the same census in the same county wit! h 2 other children, Paulina J and John H.
