To all friends, relatives and associates my Dad is corresponding with: This Darwin Pope, Grover's son. I hate to the bearer of bad news but I feel it only necessary to inform you all of my Dad's condition. My father, Grover, suffered a massive stroke Tuesday at 1pm. This happened here at his home. It came on sudden and was very unexpected. Despite his chemotherapy which as some of you might know of he has been in good spirit and had been doing better than expected. His cancer was thought to have been removed successfully even though he has had a difficult recovery time. He finished his 4th of 6 chemo treatments last week. He was informed then of the effect the blood thinner he had been taking for his heart and the role it could play on affecting his thinning and thickening of blood with chemo. As stated, Tuesday he suffered a massive stroke. He is in Jackson General hospital in Jackson in room 635 if anyone wishes to send cards or such. The worst news is along with the stroke it has cause complications as we found out yesterday of the effect it has had on his throat muscles which is not allowing him to secrete the fluids which lay in his throat and should be passed or something to that effect. This has caused fluid to build up in his lungs now and begin to bring on pneumonia which is life threatening in his condition. The first day or so he was in and out and somewhat coherient to his surrounding. As of yesterday his fever has risen and he is not responding well. My father is basically fighting for his life now. I and my wife are at home tonight with my mother so she can rest here and will be returning to Jackson tomorrow. The next 48 hours are as the doctor says, "touch and go". They are giving him the best of care and comfort and we are all praying he become concious soon and with God's grace can find a way to fight. I felt it my obligation to let all of you whether friend or family, whom I know he enjoys contact with so much on here as he finds refuge getting online and keeping touch with you all for correspondence and for his geneology research he loves so dearly, to inform you of the circumstances and what he is battling. Thank you all for giving him happiness in corresponding with him and please keep him in thought and prayer the next couple of days. I will try my best to again group mail all of you any changes and outcome of this tragic thing that has feel on this wonderful man..my Father. Again thank you and I hope this was appropriate enough and finds you all well. He things highly of all his internet friends and family. I am not sure how soon I will back here at his computer to receive or reply to any of his emails. I pray soon, he himself can contact you all once again. If you will wish to write, that will be fine but you might not receive a response quickly but I will do my best. My email is [email protected] if any of you wish to have me keep you updated perhaps more efficiently. Again, thank you all for your time and prayers.

I am looking for the family of Jonathon and Phebe (CARMAN) BROWN, who were in Maury Co., TN from at least 1810 and after 1819. Jonathon was born in SC in 1770 (so in 1810, he would be 40; in 1820, he would be 50). Phebe was born in 1780 (10 years younger than Jona.) Children: Jordan (b. 1809), Caleb, Phebe Bethrah (b. 1819) and 2 other males. Any help -- census or otherwise -- would be appreciated. Thanks for your time, Melinda K. Green [email protected]

Perry Researchers, I've seen allot about the Perry Family lately and I'm happy to see you have found "cousins" and have found new info with your research. I'm wondering since you have made progress, have you ever found the following Perry's in your research? Martha Clara Perry Mary Carter Perry Talitha Perry The family was originally from NC..probably Chatham County area...moving to Tennessee in early 1800's. They lived next to the Tillman Families and also married into the Tillman Family. Ring any bells? Thanks so much! Pam Tillman-Goff

Surnames: smith lane baker williams Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/0hB.2ACI/300 Message Board Post: I am researching the family of Samuel Smith who died in Maury Co in 1829. There is an inventory and estate sale recorded in Will Book 'E', but no final settlement. Administrators were James M. Baker and John Williams (apparent sons-in-law). He owned a considerable amount of property on the headwaters of Rutherford and Flat Creeks, North and East of Columbia. He came to Maury from Hawkins Co, TN around 1808, and settled on land he purchased from William Cocke, also of Hawkins. An apparent friend and/or relation from Hawkins Co, William Lane, also settled in the same area about the same time. From the estate sale, the following people seem to be relations, as they bought all of the slaves and most of the chattels. Almost all of the purchasers were in close proximity on the 1820 census. Martha Smith (possible wife?, no idea who she is) Samuel Smith, Jr. (apparent son?) William Smith (apparent son?, married Mary Lane) Francis C. Smith (apparent son?, married Sarah Lane) (this is my ancestor) James Smith (apparent son?) John Smith James M. Baker (son-in-law?, m. Martha Jane Smith) John Williams (son-in-law?, m. Abigail Smith) William Williams (brother of John?, m. Nancy Lane) William Smith, Francis C. Smith, William Williams, and James M. Baker moved to Madison Co, MS in the 1830's or early 40's. Baker moved on to Texas. John Williams moved to Greene/Lawrence Co, MO in 1830's. Other purchasers of numerous items were Joseph Long, Jesse Rainey, and Humphrey Hardison. If anyone knows of a final settlement or other documentation showing heirs or disposition of the estate of Samuel Smith, I would be very grateful to learn of it. It is a mamoth effort trying to track this particular Samuel Smith apart from so many others in East Tennessee, and help would definitely be appreciated. I have collected most of the deeds I can find in Maury and Hawkins counties involving the above mentioned people, and unfortunately, relationships are not mentioned. I have been unable to visit Maury County, and I cannot help but believe that there is more information on an estate of this size. Chancery Court Abstracts by Garrett and Lightfoot (1965) had no mention of it, but they also said they were only able to process about half of the files in existence. Much of the Lane info is proven in cases of Dugger vs. Lane (?) and Dugger vs. Dugger (1853). Thanks in advance, Tim Upton

Sarah Etta Estalee PERRY married to Calvin Lee MACK It's looking like their father, James Willis PERRY, was either the son of or brother of Simpson PERRY, which would make James Willis PERRY either the grandson or son of William PERRY and Elizabeth SHAW. >From what I can tell of the data posted by other researchers on this line, that would take us back to the same Frances and Phillip PERRY you mention. Everyone go see the move "Gods and Generals". Support this movie so we might see others. Being a lover of genealogy and history, and see that it would only be positive I would like to recommend the movie "Gods and Generals". I do realize this is not the environment to post such a message, however when it has to do with history, and peoples ancestry, like mine, I think we should promote it. Now, I realize it may not be the best movie every filmed, however, the movie does try to stay close to the accuracy of history (not so of most Hollywood films.) . It may be a little long, but there are some great scenes. It is wholesome, morally straight. In response to the violent nature of the film. If you are worried about a quizzey stomach not to worry if you saw Glory, Patriot, or Gettysburg this will not be as objectable. The battle of Fredericksburg is a little intense, but nothing in comparison to other movies that have come out. The interesting thing is that the liberal! media is having a field day with this movie, they seem to not get enough blood and gore, bad relationships between man and wife, sexual content, etc... this movie literally upsets them to see something like "Gods and Generals", seeing that it is more historically accurate than most movies produced these days. Thank you for listening.
