Hi Patti, I don't know where the Mack Cemetery but am wondering if you can identify a Constant Mack born around 1833 in TN. My Tanners were in Maury in the 1830s then moved to Marshall Co MS. In the 1850 Marshall census there is a Constant Mack age 17 living with my James Tanner. I know there was a Constantine Mack who m. Nancy Taylor in Maury 5/28/1827. Any relation to yours? In a message dated 4/16/03 6:56:57 PM Central Daylight Time, [email protected] writes: > [email protected] (Patti Heath) > Yes, Patti I can find it on the TOPO maps. While I have never been there it is shown as the Walker Cemetery on the TOPO maps. Going south of Columbia on the Pulaski Pike (Hwy 31) go 7 miles or so to the historic McCains Community. When you get to McCains just continue on the Pulaski Pike another 3/10 mile to Covey Hollow Road on your left. Go on past Covey Hollow Road another 7/10 mile to a farm lane also on your left. Turn left and follow that farm lane up toward the right side of a large round hill. That hill is about 1/4 mile out from Pulaski Pike on your left. The cemetery is 2/10 of a mile up the farm road on the left beginning about 100 feet from the farm road and extending northward. Mr Fred Hawkins gave these instructions back in the late 1980s in the book "Cemeteries of Maury County". Said: "Go south on Pulaski Pike and 1 mile past McCains turn east into a farm lane. There is a locked gate at the beginning of the farm lane. The cemetery is behind a barn about 1/4 mile from the Pike on the John Cothran Place". I don't know about the locked gate or ownership of the place today but the rest is correct. If there is no structures or farm road there today you can find it using the Hill I mentioned above in relation to where you are. Using the instructions after you pass McCains on the Pike look to your left for the round Hill off in the distance about 3/10 mile. Go on past the hill crest another 2/10 mile and from that point you will turn west (left, even if there is no road) and go 2/10 mile. When the same Crest of the mound shaped hill is due north from where you are standing (might even carry your compass for this) you will be standing in the vicinity of the Cemetery. Look for it in a north south line from there. I should say you might be in danger of trespassing though, so you should seek permission from the owner if you can locate them. Good luck. I hope if you get good photos. If you do please consider sharing them with the Maury County Cemetery Web Site. The photo there are low resolution and could be upgraded. http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~maury/cemetery/ Wayne Austin

Barbara, I can't remember the street name but it is one block over from the courthouse. If you are coming to the courthouse from the front of the courthouse, you go around and take the 3rd right and go down and I think it is the 1st right (there is a stop light there) and take another right. The archives is on your left about a block or so down. It is where the old Maury County Jail was. Hope this helps. Someone may be able to give you more accurate directions. Herb, When in Columbia you definitely want to visit the new Maury County Archives. Many of the documents are no longer at the Courthouse any longer, the majority of the older documents such as wills, estate settlements, chancery court documents have all been moved there. The courthouse still has all deeds and some of the wills. They have the wills that are in will books. The archives now is in possession of all the genealogy materials that were at Columbia State Community College and the Maury County Library. It is a great facility and has a very helpful staff. Just remember the Archives is not open on Friday and Saturday at this time - so make plans to be here on Mon - Thurs. One of the best restaurants to eat out downtown where you will be at is Lucille's. It is an older country style restaurant but has been very consistent over the years to have good food. There is another restaurant downtown (I can't remember the name right now) but not only does it have good food - it is one of the cleanest places you will ever eat at. They have never got lower than a 95 on health inspections. Columbia also has the majority of the fast food places - McDonalds, Hardees, Pizza Place, etc. Another very good restaurant is Legends which is not too far downtown Columbia. Betty's Parkway Restaurant has very good steaks. Columbia also has a Ruby Tuesday and Applebee's that are very good. Hope this helps. Am planning to visit Maury Co. the first week in May for some important genealogy research related to my ancestry. Expect to examine records at the courthouse. Would greatly appreciate information on any other facilities that could also provide genealogy records related to Williamson and adjacent counties. The period of interest is prior to 1850. In addition, are there any exceptional restaurants in Columbia and adjacent areas of Maury Co.? Herb Cunningham [email protected]
