He was married to Margaret Palmer Sullivan and they were he parents of eight children, 3 of whom were born in Columbia: twins, Margaret and Jere (probably Jeremiah) b. June 30 1861, Will or William date of birth unknown, and Julia b. abt 1861. During the war, Jeremiah was working for the federal government in Nashville while his family remained in Columbia. After returning to Columbia he worked for Congressman John Houston Thomas and the Sullivan family lived in what was described as "a mansion on a plantation" which belonged to Thomas. I am interested in any information about this family and about the plantation belonging to Congressman Thomas.

I am looking for information on Nancy Jane Strayhorn. She is said to have been born in Maury Co., TN in October 1822. We do not have her exact date of birth, or know for sure who her parents were. We believe her father was John Strayhorn - possibly John Strayhorn m. Anne Scoby in Orange Co., NC in 1816. There is a John Strayhorn on the 1820 Maury Co. census, and a John L. Strahorn on the 1830 Maury Co. census. We believe this is the same person. Any help GREATLY appreciated.

Is anyone researching these Sheltons who married in Maury county? Amanda Shelton m. John B. Alderson on 9/18/1828 in Maury Co. James R. Shelton m. Mary E. Alderson on 12/6/1821 in MU Co. John m. Shelton m Elizabeth Wadill on 12/5/1821 in MU Co. Thanks Alex in Missouri
List, I need your help. I am looking for the marriage records of two FREEMAN males who were double first cousins who married STOCKARD sisters of Maury Co (poss Columbia or Mt Pleasant areas) abt 1905. They were: Charley FREEMAN who m Betty STOCKARD (no bd, but she died when their dau Bessie Mae FREEMAN was b June 1906 in Mt Pleasant). Millard F FREEMAN who m Bobbie Leona STOCKARD 1889 - 1963. Their oldest child, Maggie Sue FREEMAN, was b 1906 in Mt Pleasant. Millard was the son of Jack FREEMAN and Lucy Elizabeth BUCKINGHAM who later lived in the Florence, AL area. Both families (Charley and Millard) later moved to the Birmingham, AL area. At least one of the men, if not both, may have worked for the phosphate mines in the Mt Pleasant area. Charley's father, Nathan A "Nat" FREEMAN 1861 - 1904 was shot in Mt Pleasant in April 1904. Nat's widow, Margaret Caroline "Maggie" BUCKINGHAM COLLINS FREEMAN later married Edgar CANEER possibly abt the same time period in Maury Co. I think Ed CANEER worked at the phosphate mines, too. He was from Cornersville in Marshall Co. The CANEER's had 3 ch: Edgar, Sadie, and Ruth, all of whom died as young children. The CANEER's moved to Lewisburg when Otis Lewis FREEMAN b 1903 in Mt Pleasant, son of Nat and Maggie, was abt 6-9 years old, appox abt 1909-1912. Is there a marriage record in Maury Co for Edgar CANEER and Maggie FREEMAN ? Were any of these families in Maury Co for either the 1900 or 1910 Census ? Appreciate any help or clues. Janice ROBBINS FREEMAN
List, Would be ever so grateful if you could find a marriage record for Moses FREEMAN and Thomas FREEMAN, probably after 1880, probably Lincoln Co, but possibly one of the nearby counties of Bedford, Lawrence, Marshall, or Maury. Have no idea of the wives names. They were sons of A C (Achilles) FREEMAN b 1838 and Mary Ann PERRY b 1839 who were m 1856 in LCT. Moses and Tom were younger than their older brothers: Jack b 1860 who m Lucy BUCKINGHAM and Nathan A 'Nat' 1861 - 1904 who m Mary Jane BUCKINGHAM, sisters who were from Marshall Co. I have absolutely no idea what the names of the wives of Moses and Tom were. This is not the Moses FREEMAN b 1835, who m Martha Jane BARHAM PROSSER. The older Moses was the older brother of A C (Achilles), thus the uncle of the younger Moses who was b after 1861. Also am trying to find the marriage of two other siblings (sisters) in this family who were also younger than Jack and Nat: Alice FREEMAN m a Robert L HAMBY or HANBY or similar name, prob before 1891 as they had a son Eugene b 1891. Again nearby counties are a possibility as someone found the family in Lawrence Co on the 1900 Census. Lula or Lulu FREEMAN - I have no idea who or where she may have married. Does anybody have any clue re Moses, Tom, Alice, or Lula / Lulu - all of whom were probably b abt 1862 - abt 1880, latest 1885 ? Nat was my husband's gf and I am trying to locate information about his siblings and find their descendants. I have almost all of the descendants of Jack and Nat. There was another brother Elijah who would have been b abt 1858 according to his age on the 1870 Census, but I've not found any other reference to Elijah. Any help will be most gratefully appreciated. Janice ROBBINS FREEMAN

To Brenda, I looked in the Peter Luna book by Jane Luna and Leslie Waltman...found no Lydia or Liddie and also found no London at all. So apparently there might have been a different family line of Looney in the area. Sorry. Hi, Someone on this email list, either this one, or the Giles one, helped me obtain a copy of the history of Peter Luna, who's grandfather was Peter Looney. The book is pretty full of Looneys. I will look up Lydia to see if her parents are listed, and get back with you.... Dianna ps, Peter Luna was an ancestor of my grandmother, Clemmie Pearson. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Brenda London" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Friday, April 18, 2003 9:37 AM Subject: [TNMAURY-L] London/Looney marriage > I am searching for the parents of Lydia Looney who married Levi London on Jan 22, 1828 in Maury Co., tn. Donna I think you are the map you are talking about is the D.G. Beers map of 1878 of Maury County. That is the census map of Property owners for 1876 by County published in 1878 I believe the project was completed for the whole country. That is the only map that I know of that details who lived where in 1876. It is not perfect though because renters were left out in favor of the property owner having a multiple listing. The map is on Gary Hoods' Maury County Resources Roots Web Freepages the URL of which is: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~genieresources/Index.htm The D.G. Beers map was done for all of Maury County and explodes the detail for Columbia & some of the villages. You'll need to look at it or download it in sections. It is too big a map to display in one picture. You can also order it from the Tennessee State Archives but the copy is not very good. I am told there used to be a copy of the Maury County map in the Court House (Archives now I guess) that was supposedly a good readable copy but I have not verified that. Wayne Austin
