SURNAMES : BLEDSOE, BUCKINGHAM, BURNS, FREEMAN, HAMBY / HANBY, MELSON, MITCHELL, NICHOLS, PERRY, STOCKARD with ties into Bedford, Lincoln, Marshall, & Maury Counties, TN Many THANKS to Sherry FUNCHUM for finding the elusive Killis FREEMAN and his family in the 1880 Census for Benton, Saline Co, AR ! Does anyone know of other families going to AR before 1880 ? Killis/Killus was Achilles FREEMAN who usually went by the initials A C and was b 4 March 1838 in Lincoln Co, TN, the son of Abner FREEMAN and his 3rd wife (so far as we can determine), Unknown NICHOLS, who was the dau of William (Moses) NICHOLS and Elizabeth MELSON. Killis' wife was Mary Ann PERRY, b 1 April 1839 in Lincoln Co, TN, who appears to be the dau of Nathan PERRY and Evaline MITCHELL who m in Lincoln Co in 1838. They are on the 1840 Census for Lincoln Co, TN. Evaline MITCHELL PERRY later m 1848 Andrew BURNS and had two sons. They are on the 1850 Lincoln Co, TN Census. According to the 1880 Benton, Saline Co, AR Census, the family included : Household: Name Relation Marital Status Gender Race Age Birthplace Occupation Father's Birthplace Mother's Birthplace Comments by Janice Killis FREEMAN Self M Male W 39 TN Blacksmith NC NC Age wrong ? Jack's (b1860) oldest son as Millard Fil(l)more FREEMAN b abt 1886 I have been trying to find marriage and death records for Moses, Thomas, and Lula. And am now trying to find out when the family returned to Lincoln Co (or possibly Bledsoe or Marshall) and what happened to Lee b abt 1885/6. Must have been back by time Sally and Marion Fletcher BLEDSOE married abt 1884 in Lincoln Co, TN. I am pretty sure that both Moses and Thomas lived to adulthood and married, but to whom and where ? One of them may not have had any children. This family has connections in : Bedford County (A C entered Confed service and poss living there abt 1870), Marshall County (around Law's Hill where the BUCKINGHAM sisters grew up and Belfast where most of Nat's family is buried, beginning with his first wife, Mary Jane BUCKINGHAM who died in 1899), and Maury County (where many of Jack's and Nat's sons and possibly their younger brothers, Moses and Tom, worked at the phosphate mines around Mt Pleasant about 1900 - 1910 and Nat died 1904). Nat's youngest son, Otis Lewis, was b 1903 in Mt Pleasant. Double first cousins, Millard and Charley (sons of Jack and Nat), married STOCKARD sisters in Mt Pleasant in 1905. And both had daus b there in 1906. Any additions, corrections, or help will be most gratefully appreciated. Janice

Maybe you can get a hold of one of the funeral homes there to see if anyone knows of who keeps records for that Cemetery. The Roundtree's have been in the area for about 10 generatios so that is my guess.

    3. I have two references to Thomas GRANT involving the purchase of land. We will be in the Columbia area in November and are curious as to whether the areas described can be found. We would like to just see the area that is referenced in the recorded deeds. Can anyone tell me if the areas described are in the built-up area of Columbia or still in undeveloped areas? " Another reference to Thomas Grant occurred in 1823 and is referred to in the following lawsuit and a subsequent land purchase of 200 acres. On 11 Jan. 1815 he was a superannuary at a general court-martial at Mobile. Following his return to Maury County after these three tours of service he sold, on 5 Nov. 1815, land on Smith's Fork, Smith County, to Samuel Lake (Smith Deeds D. p. 281) and on 18 Nov. sold 210 acres on Globe Creek, six miles southeast of Columbia, to John Brown, in trust.
