My great grandfather was Dr. Benjamin Franklin Smith who practiced in Waco, Giles Co., TN. He was married three times and was murdered when he was 51. According to the Giles County Historical Society, he migrated from South Carolina with siblings whom nobody has been able to identify. Those of us who have researched this family have hit a blank wall with Dr. Smith. No indication of where in SC they came nor other members of the family. I would be grateful if some of you have information on this family. Jack Dugger jugg@comcast.net
Have you checked this site ? It has many of the earliest settlers listed. _A Letter to Return J. Meigs, May 7, 1814. TNGenNet Inc._ (http://www.tngenweb.org/tnland/intruders/18140507.html) Mary Hulsey Kilgore, TX.

They came from South Carolina but lived in Maury Co. long enough to have had two children, William and Mary Ann Smith. They later moved to what was then Calloway KY. but was later to be Montgomery Co. TN. then it changed to Stewart Co. TN. Mary Ann was born in 1820 and William was born in 1822 in Maury Co. TN. I do not know the name of William Smith Sr's father or mother or wife for that matter. The way family's all moved together back then it is possible that William Sr. could of had his father or other brothers with him? Hello, If anyone is willing to look at this photo, I would like to know the identity of the two girls in the front. The man in back is Seavy Hight, and the woman next to him I believe is his mother Elizabeth (Lillie)Park Hight (b. 1864). His father, not pictured, is James Cordie Hight (b. 1858). The photo can be seen at: http://lordoftheflames.net/RichardsonSaddle/paandhismom.jpg I am willing to be corrected on any of the information given above. For further info, here is are a few details: Parents of James Cordie Hight are: Goodman Smith Hight and Sara (Sallie)Rust Parents of Elizabeth Lenore Park are: John Joseph Andrew Park and Elizabeth Steel Second wife of James Cordie Hight was: Minnie Pearl Rone (Roan) Children of that marriage were Lucille, Nettie, Bessie Seavy Hight's brother was Paul Maxwell Hight. So, once again, does anyone recognize the two girls in the front of that photo?? Thanks, Dianna Knight Taplin
Does anyone have any information on the Hodge general store in Columbia, TN, which existed before 1860? Who the owners were and what became of it? Does anyone have a little book of the history of Columbia TN where that information might be? Thanks if anyone can help. I am looking for marriage record for a Charles (Charlie/Charley) Franklin (Frank) (or C.F.) DANIELS, born 1859 and Sara (Sarah) Birb, born 1862. (This may not be her maiden name; her tombstone is "Sara Birb", but she's on the 1920 Hickman County census as Sarah B. Daniels). Thanks in advance for any help. I am trying to locate any information on Brownie Totty who married John R. Terrell in Centerville in 1882. Record shows Magnona (possibly Maggie) B. Totty. I have not been able to find where she was buried but I believe it was Centerville. The story told was that she was very ill she requested a drink of water from the Parker Spring which is an everlasting spring. I am also interested in purchasing a book from Edward Dotson as he did a census write up with a Magnona at 310 Totty's Bend and a Maggie at 312 Totty's Bend. Both were age 13. Census record indicates John Terrell was from Alabama and it appears he moved family back and forth to Harvest, and Madison County, Al. Thanks and have a Happy New Year
Love the story. In thirty years much more than the semicolon and apostrophe might as well be filed off the typewriter, computer, or whatever the technical equivalent of the day might happen to be. I vote we remove th CAPS LOCK. It is a lot mroe bother, coming on when it is not wanted or expected!
There would be far fewer typographical errors in our writings if the apostrophe were removed from keyboards. I believe it was James Thurber who wrote about his experience while working for an editor of a newspaper. Being a new college graduate, Thurber said he followed the rules of grammar properly, but the editor sent back some copy for a re-write to remove all the semicolons. He completed the work and left it on the editor's desk after a late tour of duty. The following day, he began to write some more grammatically correct copy but found that the semicolon had been filed off his typewriter. Perhaps we should do that with the apostrophe.

Mark, The people at the courthouse have not been very nice since the Archives opened. They were never the most courteous people anyway and when the Archives opened they didn't think they were going to have to fool with making copies and all. The Archives still does not have everything that a person needs yet. We deifinitely need better people in those departments at the court house here. They were very pleasant at the Archives when I visited during the holidays. I met some nice people and made a small donation to the historical society. I was notified when I accidently walked into the nonpublic archives area, but politely so. Folks at the courthouse weren't so helpful, but they were having a party. By the way, I found Pleasant Mount cemetery, several antecedent graves and a distant cousin or two. It was inspirational to me, but I had to drop the wife and kids off at the mall. For some reason cemeteries don't get them excited that much. I hope to get my website back up before long for anyone looking for it. Happy New Year to all and may 2006 bust some of your brick walls. -Mark Murphy WayneAL1@aol.com wrote: > I am not sure there is anyone who is active that way Sylvia.
