"DOCK" MEADOWS was born February 20, 1825 in near Cornersville, Lincoln County, Tennessee, and died August 12, 1894 in Near Talley, Marshall County, Tennessee. He married MARTHA A. SCALES August 09, 1848 in Connersville, Marshall County, Tennessee by J. P.. She was born February 24, 1831 in Lewisburg, Marshall County, Tennessee, and died June 1902 in probably Preston Bend, Grayson County, Texas, need newspaper obituary.. Notes for ALPHUS M. "DOCK" MEADOWS: Much of the information on Alphus is from his Mexican War papers. He lived near Archer, formerly Spring Place, Tennessee from 1846 to 1893. He got a land warrant and extra pay. He was at Talley, Tennessee in 1888. The soldier's discharge of Alphus says he was 5 foot, 8 inches, fair complection, gray eyes, and auburn hair. Jeanne has Alphus birth date as Feb. 20, 1826. Children of ALPHUS MEADOWS and MARTHA SCALES are: i. ORA F.3 MEADOWS, b. 1849; d. Bef. 1860. Notes for ORA F. MEADOWS: She is on the 1850 census, Marshall County, Tennessee. 2. ii. JOSEPH PERRY "JOE" MEADOWS was born September 11, 1852 in Marshall County, Tennessee, and died March 17, 1910 in Grayson County, Texas where he is buried at Preston Bend.. He married ALICE THOMPSON, daughter of JAMES THOMPSON and MARTHA GRESHAM. She was born August 20, 1863 in Preston Bend, Grayson County, Texas, and died August 12, 1912 in Preston Bend, Grayson County, Texas. Notes for JOSEPH PERRY "JOE" MEADOWS: Joseph Perry Meadows came to Texas near White mound,about 1870 (according to the History of North and West Texas). Joe and Alice lived in the famous "Glen Eden" from about 1912 to 1916. Joe and Alice Thompson Meadows are the Great, Grandparents of Donald Jack Walker. Joseph gambled quite a lot and won the "White Elephant Saloon" on night of which we have a set of dominoes that came out of it. He had a brother, Bob. His mother, Martha, came to live here according to the Mexican War pension records . Notes for ALICE THOMPSON: Her name is sometimes spelled Allis. Children of JOSEPH MEADOWS and ALICE THOMPSON are: i. ERNEST4 MEADOWS, b. August 24, 1884, Preston Bend, Grayson County, Texas; d. May 03, 1969, Madill, Marshall County, Oklahoma, and he is buried in Preston Bend Cemetery.; m. EULA HELM; b. August 02, 1887, Athens, Anderson County, Texas (Source: another source has August 2, 1886 for date of birth..); d. April 21, 1969, Denison, Grayson County, Texas and is buried in Sherman, Texas.. Notes for ERNEST MEADOWS: Ernest and Eula took their kids across Red River to school at Woodville, Ok. Ernest had inherited and ran the ferry that people used to get across Red River. Woodville was just across the river in Indian Territory or later Oklahoma. Ernest paid tuition for the kids to go to school there because it was in another state. Later when Oklahoma and Texas got together and built a bridge across the river, he took the kids in a car and didn't have to pay tuition. Then as school buses became part of the school system, a bus was sent over to pick up the kids on that side of the river. Ern, as he was often called, owned a store on the river which had earl ier started as an Indian Trading Post bought and ran by his grandfather, Judge James George Thompson in Preston Bend, Grayson County, Texas. Thompson left the property to his daughter, Alice, who married Joe Meadows, the father of Ernest. Preston Bend cemetery is located in Grayson County, Texas. Notes for EULA HELM: Mama Tinkel (Alice Helm Tinkel) told me (Lavonne Walker) that she lived with Olnder Ware at or by Davis, Indian Territory. Eula Helm Meadows, her sister lived with William R. Falkner according to the 1900 census. Their mother had died. ii. EXEY MEADOWS, b. October 18, 1882, Preston Bend, Grayson County, Texas; d. March 29, 1939, Bakersfield, Kern County, California, where he died of Pulmonary Tuberculosis.
