Marshall County List: In recent correspondence with Gerry Hunt she mentions Nancy Haile MORRIS marrying John DILLARD. I have felt that there was a connection of the DILLARD family and the PETTY family of Marshall County. Some have posted Bethany BAGLEY as marrying William Thornton PETTY and I feel that this is in error. My thoughts are that she married George Dillard PETTY and Bethany was dead by 1829 and George Dillard PETTY remarried Sophia HOGAN shortly thereafter. Sophia HOGAN had passed away by 1831 and was buried in the "OLD PETER LUNA" Cemetery. I believe that she was a granddaughter of "Old Peter Luna". It is my theory that George Dillard PETTY and Bethany BAGLEY are the parents of my great grandfather William Mathial PETTY. William Mathail PETTY and Cincinnati Frances SULLIVAN had one son named Dillard PETTY. The Bagley, Sullivan Petty, Talley, Brooks Murdock families most likely came from Chatham County, NC. The Dillard family was also in the Chatham County area during the late 1700 an! d early 1800's.
