    1. GRANT DNA project - correction
    2. Allen Grant
    3. Sorry about that last message...I had to reformat it...... In June, 2004, several of us GRANT's started a DNA project through FamilyTreeDNA, located in Houston. We started with 10 participants and now have 18 people signed up -- one an Allen and another an Allan. The most significant find so far is two exact matches for 25-marker tests. Two Grant's were in the same vicinity in Maine and both hope to connect to the same Peter Grant (who was exiled by England's Oliver Cromwell circa 1650). The paper trail stops for Joshua Grant born circa 1760 and for Stephen Grant born circa 1752. Whether they are brother's, cousins, or distant cousins will become subject to debate. What this testing has proven is that: 1 - They are related to each other. 2 - They need a proven Peter Grant descendant to confirm our hunch. 3 - They have non-Grant 25/25 matches with two present day Gilbreath (Scottish Galbraith) families. These US born Gilbreath brothers went their separate way around 1780. So, unless the Gilbreath's ancestors lived in Maine, we'll probably find a common ancestor in Scotland. I recently learned that I match 25/25 with another Grant whose William Grant, Sr. came from New Brunswick, Canada, whereas my Thomas Grant was first sighted in Maury County, TN in 1817 and died in Marshall County, TN in 1838. My match is searching for John Grant and I am trying to find any information regarding Thomas' parents. How are they related? All of us have reached road blocks in our search. We are in hopes that others will join our study and provide another source of information. If you have an interest in project, check out: http://www.familytreedna.com/public/GRANT/ If you have a GRANT surname on one of the names listed at the site, you might consider joining the group. The more we have participating, the greater the chances of finding more matches and additional information that might bridge the gap. I have been reading the dialog on the GENEALOGY-DNA-L@rootsweb.com and find that there is far more to this DNA research that I ever expected. Frankly, I don't understand it. Below are my results: Can anyone tell me the key to open the door to more than just finding a match to someone else?
