(parts of the same family spelled their names differently). Samuel is the only full-brother of my g. grandmother, Tresey Mathis-Shepherd. Samuel was b. abt 1846, Wilson Co, Tn. He was there 1870 having m. 1866 to Martha L. Layhue. Next found in Marshall co, Tn, 1880 with children George W. Mathews b.abt 1867, Nellie b.abt 1873 & Joseph b. abt 1879. Samuel was only son of Lasater R.Mathews & Dany Morris, who died by 1848, said to be 3/4 Cherokee. Lasater m. 1848 to Martha (Patsy ) Ann Cook & had children; John W., Fannie E., J.Robert, Darthula C., and Martha W. Mathews. If you can help, contact by e-mail gemini4@charter.net
