    2. Allen Grant
    3. In reviewing land transactions in Marshall County (Maury County prior to 1836), I found a number of reference to Thomas Grant's land and finally in 1836, it is noted as James Davis Grant's property. However, there is at least one conflicting land reference wherein Patrick McCorkle was shown to have purchased the land. To further confuse the issue, there was a reference to a contract: 10 Sep 1833 Wm. Davidson…sold Patrick W. McCorkle 102 A for $300…on the E line of M. and J. Alexander’s 112 A and also on the W dividing line run and agreed upon between Thomas Nix and Thomas Grant of a 200 A tract contracted by them from Wm. Davidson and the part signed for by Grant, S with Alexander’s E line passing his corner. Bounded on the W by Richard Grant, S by James Osburn, E by James C. Record and N by James Vincent (Marshall Co. C-312). ============= From the Land Deed Genealogy of Marshall County, Tennessee (1836-1840) Vol. 1, it reads, "Book B, page 20 Eli Cheek's Deed for 56 acres of land lying on the waters of West Rock Creek executed to him by Richard G. Grant and received in office and recorded 28th October 1837. This indenture made 2nd March 1836 between Richard G. Grant of Maury County and Eli Cheek of Bedford County for the sum of five hundred and sixty two dollars and 50/100 for a tract of land, lying in Maury County on the waters of West Rock Creek and joining lands of James Grant, Cyrus Alexander's 74 acre tract purchased from William Alexander and John Jones's line. Wit: James Jones and James Edwards. ============= From the Land Deed Genealogy of Marshall County, Tennessee (1836-1840) Vol. 1, it reads, "Book C, page 312 Patrick W. McCorkle’s Deed for 100 acres of land on the waters of West Rock Creek executed to him by William Davidson by his attorney in fact James K. Polk and received in office 11th and recorded 12th February 1840. This indenture made 13th September 1833 between William Davidson of Mecklenburg County, North Carolina of the one part and Patrick W. McCorkle of Maury County, Tennessee of the other part for the sum of three hundred dollars for a certain tract of land in Maury County on the head waters of Rock Creek being part of a tract of 5000 acres granted by the State of North Carolina to John Nelson by him conveyed to Thomas Davidson and from him by decent to William Davidson and adjoining lands of M. & J. Alexander’s 112 acres part of said 5000 acres, by the dividing line between Thomas Nix and Thomas Grant. Wit: James C. Record and James Osburn.” Can any of you land experts interprate for me what was going on? Was a contract to buy the same as renting today or lease with the option to buy? From ownership maps prepared by Don Jeter, a county historian, it appears that it is the same tract of land, but I could be wrong. On the 1850 census of Marshall Co,TN, is a William Barron, age 49, born S.C.,and wife Melinda, age 49,b.TN. In their household were children Hiram and Matilda Barron. Was "Wilson" the maiden name of Melinda? Was Hiram Wilson any relation to the Wilson families that lived in Chapell Hill in Marshall County.TN? My Robert Stephenson married Jane Barron in York County,S.C. in 1784. Jane Barron was the daughter of Captain John Barron and his wife Margaret Meek. Margaret belonged to the Adam Meek clan of York County,S.C. I noticed an excellent website called "Wilson's of Williamson County,TN'' that mentioned the Meek surname in connection with Mecklinburg County,NC. I don' believe the two Meek families are related, but I found the mention of the Meek surname interesting. Alexander Barron Sr(the brother of Jane Barron),Alexander Barron Jr.William Barron Sr.,William Barron Jr,Dorcas Stephenson Barron, Abraham Barron, and Samuel Barron settled on Robertson's Fork in Giles Co,TN before 1820. I believe the Alexander Barron,William Barron and Daniel Barron on the 1850 and 1860 census records of Marshall in Lewisburg to be related to my Barron family from S.C. Daniel Barron may have been named for Daniel McClaren, who along with his wife Mary Stephenson migrated to Marshall County,TN. In Giles County,TN,in the small Elk Ridge Cemetery where some of my Barrons are buried is the grave of a Rosannah Wilson. I would also like to contact by email,or otherwise, any descendent of these Barrons living in Lewisburg. Thanks, Tom Stephenson
