The southern part of Marshall county TN is my home. The part where the Cooks had land was Lincoln, Marshall and I think Giles. Cornersville , Tn was in Giles county until about 1870. William B. Cook and his wife Frances Rainey were my ggggrandparents. William is buried on a hillside north of Springplace also called Archer. We don't know where Frances is buried. Find a copy of William Dollarhide's book that shows the boundry changes for the counties of the US at for each Federal census. The area south of Elk Ridge was the area that shifted the most. I hope this helps. Sincerely Patricia ( Patsy)

If I remember correctly, we went to the cemetery from the Talley Cemetery that is near the Cane Creek Church of Christ. Then from New Hope we took a road east that led us back into the main highway at Talley Station. It seems to me that the New Hope Cemetery was on Fishing Ford Road. My Morris grandparents are buried there. I remember that the cemetery is on a hill with one of the roads leading into the lower side and the other road on the higher side. In the 1980s when I was there, the lower road was adjacent a tobacco field. I picked a couple of leaves of the growing tobacco to bring home and show my students. The house I mentioned was probably more closely across the road from the tobacco field than the cemetery. TALLEY was on the mailbox. My Talley family was large and lived in the Talley Station area many years. Most of them are buried in the Talley Cemetery. At the Cane Creek Church, however, no one knew anything about the Talley family. A couple of people by that name were members though. I met one of them. Thanks for the reply. Gerry Hunt

There is no one living across the road from this cemetery, there is an open field. Is there another New Hope Cemetery? The Marshes have a book on Marshall County cemeteries, maybe you can find the cemetery in that. There is a funeral home in Cornersville. I can't think of who is in charge, but if you can contact them they can help. I am going home too Tennessee this weekend and I can ask about another New Hope Cemetery. Sincerely, Patsy

Do you mean the New Hope Cemetery at Cherry Corner? It is on state road 129 between US alt 31 and US 431. 129 goes across a good bit of southern Marshall County. That is home for me and I was just by there several weeks ago. My ggguncle and his wife are buried there. Last year during the Decoration Day for the cemetery I stopped and asked about adding a stone for the one that has crumbled. No one is really in charge of the cemetery. If you can find Don Jeter he can help. Hope this helps. Patsy

I'm going to have to disagree on this observation. The main reason is that Jeremiah and Tabitha's eldest son was named Edmond R. There is no telling what the "R" stood for, but it could have possibly have been Randle; Randolph; Richard; Robert, etc... of which, there were several Cheek men with these Christian names. I need to add here that Jeremiah was living in close proximity between 1790 - 1810 to other Cheek men with these names. And, yes, there were also Elisha's. The main thing is is that the first born son was generally named for the father's father. I hope to uncover this truth very soon. You do have the right idea. So keep on searching because that is how treasure is found!

I believe that William Henry Chilton was close kin to Robert Chilton from the last Post or to Robert Sidney Chilton b.Abt. 1827, TN the son of James Chilton and Joanna Kennedy of Marshall Co., TN. Robert ( Sidney) Chilton appears in the 1880 Census, Marshall Co., TN while the other Robert of last Post does not. These two Robert Chilton's are of about the same age. This information does not help me in locating the father's of Robert and William Henry Chilton but it does place some of them in Marshall Co., TN about the same time.
