I'm reasonably certain that this one was born in King William Co not York Co. I'm also quite confident that this John's father is Gideon. Gideon lived in KWC from the very least 1782 to his death abt 1820. I know since I traced him year by year in KWC tax lists. That would seem to preclude him from being your ancestor. Oh well.... Good luck in your research, Jim

Bobby Prosser prossergenealogy@comcast.net http://www.chestnutridgecousins.org ----- Original Message ----- From: "Trish Elliott-Kashima" <pkashima@lorettotel.net> To: <NCCHATHA-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, May 15, 2004 11:53 AM Subject: [NCChatham] McDaniels in Chatham and Randolph County, NC > Still trying to get the connection between the following McDaniels if any: > > Samuel McDaniel: Born ca 1760? married Frankey Teague Watts, 29 Sept 1786, Randolph Co NC, Isaac McDaniel was bond. Frankey (Frances) was the widow of Benjamin Watts (who died pre jan 1786, Chatham Co NC). 1790 census shows him in Chatham County with his wife, the four younger Watts daughters: Frances, Rebecca, Nancy and Jane as well as the two McDaniel daughters to this union: Mariam and Sophia. 1800 census shows him in Randolph County with 2 daughters (Mariam and Sophia), wife Frankey (over 45), himself (26-45) and 1 male 16-26 (who?) and 1 other male 26-45 (who?). In 1796 he has a land transaction with Jacob McDaniel (still need copy of same) and he witnesses two land transactions of Jacob McDaniel's in 1803. He is also mentioned as being next to the plantation of Thomas Forrester that Jacob purchased in 1803 on the Rocky River. He is also mentioned with Jacob in a appeal of widows allowance, 1805, for Peggy Teague (still need to get copy of same). Samuel goes to! > Maury County, TN (purchasing property which is on the portion that becomes Marshall County, TN) just prior to 1810 and gets murdered there pre 11 Oct 1826, supposedly by his son-in-law John L. Wood (who married Sophia). The estate papers mention Amos McDaniel, brother to Samuel, who was written a letter by Samuel requesting he leave NC and go to TN to help him with a problem he was having with his son-in-law John L. Wood. So here we have Samuel and Amos siblings for certain, and Isaac probably (as bondsman of the marriage). I know that John McDaniel and Katherine supposedly had Mary, John, Isaac, Abraham, Mariam, Sarah, Samuel, Amos and Elizabeth. No mention of Jacob or Peggy/Margaret tho. > > Margaret/Peggy McDaniel: Born ca 1765?, married Edward Teague ca 1782. Edward is son of Edward Teague and Lurannah Van Swearingen and he died ca 1804/5 in Chatham Co., NC. Children: Willis, Edward, John, Amy, Luranah, Margaret, Patty, Joshua. Jacob and Samuel mentioned in the appeal of widows allowance in Feb 1805 in Chatham County, NC.David and Elijah Teague are witnesses to land transactions of Jacob McDaniel and Isaac Teague was neighbor to the plantation of Thomas Forrester that Jacob purchased in 1803, Chatham Co NC. Of course there is the Teague connection Frankey who married Benjamin Watts and Samuel McDaniel. She was the daughter of Rev. Isaac Teague. > > Jacob McDaniel: Born ca 1760, married Elizabeth Watts, daughter of Benjamin Watts and Frankey Teaguge, ca 1783. She died in early 1840's in Arkansas. Jacob died ca 1831-2 in GA, probably in Jones Co. Children: Jane (not certain of name), who married George Stewart), unknown female, Benjamin Watts, William O., 2 more unknown males and 2 more unknown females, Samuel, Jacob Jr., another unknown male and Elizabeth Watts. Jacobs first land transaction is 1785 when he purchases land from Simon Terrell and his wife Sarah. Jacob purchases land (twice) from Henry Bray. Samuel McDaniel witnesses some of his land transactions and he is noted a a neighboring property to the Thomas Forrester plantation on the Rocky River which Jacob purchased in 1803 in Chatham Co. Jacob and Samuel are mentioned in the appeal of widow allowance for Peggy Teague in 1805. Jacob and family leave for Jones County sometime around 1815-1816. He is my connection. > > John McDaniel: Born ca 1776, married Rebecca Watts - the daughter of Benjamin Watts and Frances Teague. John married second to Mariam. Children: Huldah (marries Joshua Fox); Rachel "Fanny" (marries Elisha Bray, 1836, Randolph Co); Riley; Nancy (married Matthew Bray 1829, Randolph Co); Watts (a Cherokee connection here, he marries Nelly McDaniel, 1786 Randolph Co NC, he decd pre 1845 a Watts McDaniel is on the Henderson rolls 1835, in TN); Elijah/Elisha (decd pre 1845); John Elihu (married Ailsey Bray 1826,Randolph Co-bond Watts McDaniel and Elizabeth Scotten, 1831 Randolph Co); Jesse (whose guardian was Ephraim McLain), a female who married James McCaslin. Marshall County, TN minutes (Dec 1846) mentions Elisha Bray as guardian of Mary and Rachel Bray, heirs at law of their grandfather John McDaniel. Bond $800, Henry Bray. See Samuel McDaniel's connection with Marshall County. While I do not see him mentioned in the deeds or records found to date with Jacob - it is in! > teresting that there is the Watts connection, the Bray connection and the Maury County, TN connection. > > I have pages of information on Samuel and Jacob especially - am willing to share - I have just put the bare bones here for brevity sake.
