Good morning, The Middle Tennessee Genealogical Society will hold its next meeting on Sturday, September 18, 2004, at the Edmondson Pike Branch of the Nashville Public Library at 1 p.m. Elizabeth Queener will speak on "Friersons Rediscovered & Reunited: Black & White" -- The remarkable story of how the descendants of Dr. Thomas James Frierson and his 97 slaves of Maury County were reunited in their common heritage and reaffirmed in their hopes for tomorrow at a gathering at the old plantation home and slave gravesites. Mrs. Queener, a Frierson descendant, often lectures on the antebellum era and genealogy. Please join us! Katheryne Cowan MTGS Webmaster
I am almost certain there has not been a History book for Marshall Co. Tn. I have never heard any talk of doing one. The Historical Society does not seem to be active anymore. Frances
Hi, Is there a book about Marshall County TN like the one for Rutherford and Bedford Co that was for sale in the last few years. If so where could i buy one? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Donna dbeetel@aol.com
Sorry about that last message...I had to reformat it...... In June, 2004, several of us GRANT's started a DNA project through FamilyTreeDNA, located in Houston. We started with 10 participants and now have 18 people signed up -- one an Allen and another an Allan. The most significant find so far is two exact matches for 25-marker tests. Two Grant's were in the same vicinity in Maine and both hope to connect to the same Peter Grant (who was exiled by England's Oliver Cromwell circa 1650). The paper trail stops for Joshua Grant born circa 1760 and for Stephen Grant born circa 1752. Whether they are brother's, cousins, or distant cousins will become subject to debate. What this testing has proven is that: 1 - They are related to each other. 2 - They need a proven Peter Grant descendant to confirm our hunch. 3 - They have non-Grant 25/25 matches with two present day Gilbreath (Scottish Galbraith) families. These US born Gilbreath brothers went their separate way around 1780. So, unless the Gilbreath's ancestors lived in Maine, we'll probably find a common ancestor in Scotland. I recently learned that I match 25/25 with another Grant whose William Grant, Sr. came from New Brunswick, Canada, whereas my Thomas Grant was first sighted in Maury County, TN in 1817 and died in Marshall County, TN in 1838. My match is searching for John Grant and I am trying to find any information regarding Thomas' parents. How are they related? All of us have reached road blocks in our search. We are in hopes that others will join our study and provide another source of information. If you have an interest in project, check out: http://www.familytreedna.com/public/GRANT/ If you have a GRANT surname on one of the names listed at the site, you might consider joining the group. The more we have participating, the greater the chances of finding more matches and additional information that might bridge the gap. I have been reading the dialog on the GENEALOGY-DNA-L@rootsweb.com and find that there is far more to this DNA research that I ever expected. Frankly, I don't understand it. Below are my results: Can anyone tell me the key to open the door to more than just finding a match to someone else? Jesse's daughter was Sarah CAUDLE BRIDGES. Although they lived in Maury Co. at the time, previous research indicates that some Maury records of this period are filed in Marshall Co. Dear Kristi, I am also interested in the obit of Lucinda Caroline Massey Poarch (Porch). She died February 16, 1911. What is the web site of TSLA? Hi, Bill Virginia Poarch
In a message dated 8/19/2004 2:01:18 PM Central Standard Time, TNMARSHA-D-request@rootsweb.com writes: Tennessee State Library and Archives has the Marshall Gazette from 1905 - 1956; 1959 - present available on microfilm. If anyone needs an obituary from any of these issues you can contact me for details. I go up on Friday and I mail out copies on Saturday. You can also go to TSLA's website and they can retrieve the obit for you also. Kristi Moffitt kkcem@blomand.net Kristi, if you could find Lucinda Carolyn (or Caroline?) Massey Poarch, I would be forever grateful. I'm trying to get a confirmation on her parents. They should be John and Mary HENRY Massey, but I'm not certain. All I have on her was that she was born in 1830 and died in 1911. She and Mr. Poarch (or Porch?) had 12 children. They lived down towards the Diana Community. Sincerely, William R. (Bill) Massey

Louisa (sometimes called Eliza) Wilson, daughter of Robert Wilson, Jr. and Jane McDowell, married Zaccheus Wilson on 25 April l822 in Williamson Co., TN. There is a January 20, l833 Bedford Co., TN probate record stating that "Zachus Wilson and Louisa Wilson his wife of Dyer Co., TN appoint Wm S Mayfield of Bedford Co their attorney to oversee their interest regarding the estate of Aaron Wilson." Zaccheus had died before Nov l834, when his widow and 4 children were living with her mother back in Williamson Co. (Nobody has yet been able to find the names of these children.). Later Louisa married Tilmon D. Hinson on 4 November l842 in Marshall Co., TN. If anyone has been able to turn up anything else about the parents of this Zaccheus Wilson or the names of his children, I will really appreciate your help.
