At this point, I don't know who he is the son of. I just wanted to post the fact that I have had no verifaction on this. If anyone has any clues let me know. Thanks Linda Terry Herd goodlands1@juno.com
I read the recent message from Bobby Prosser and checked my file. I have that William Thornton Petty married Bethany Bagley. However, when I read Bobby's message, I started checking. Some have posted on the internet that William T. Petty married Bethany Dec 3, 1821 in Madison County, Al. I checked the Madison County, Al website and found that William T. Petty married Abigail Bayless on Dec 3, 1821 in Madison County, Al. I do not have any information on George Dillard Petty, but would appreciate knowing more about him. Marshall County List: In recent correspondence with Gerry Hunt she mentions Nancy Haile MORRIS marrying John DILLARD. I have felt that there was a connection of the DILLARD family and the PETTY family of Marshall County. Some have posted Bethany BAGLEY as marrying William Thornton PETTY and I feel that this is in error. My thoughts are that she married George Dillard PETTY and Bethany was dead by 1829 and George Dillard PETTY remarried Sophia HOGAN shortly thereafter. Sophia HOGAN had passed away by 1831 and was buried in the "OLD PETER LUNA" Cemetery. I believe that she was a granddaughter of "Old Peter Luna". It is my theory that George Dillard PETTY and Bethany BAGLEY are the parents of my great grandfather William Mathial PETTY. William Mathail PETTY and Cincinnati Frances SULLIVAN had one son named Dillard PETTY. The Bagley, Sullivan Petty, Talley, Brooks Murdock families most likely came from Chatham County, NC. The Dillard family was also in the Chatham County area during the late 1700 an! d early 1800's. If you have any information that you might me able to share on the DILLARD family of Marshall County it would be appreciated? Thank you! Frances: I have just recently found out that they still have a Historical Society and they have material at the old Hardison School site. We are planning our Chestnut Ridge Cousins reunion in Marshall County in 2005 at Horton Park June 10 and 11. I have been meaning to get back down to Marshall County and do more research. All of the other counties are doing a history book and I have many ancestors from the area and I would love to see a family history book from there. ----- Original Message ----- From: <Frbr274@aol.com> To: <TNMARSHA-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, September 09, 2004 10:17 PM Subject: [TNMARSHA] book > I am almost certain there has not been a History book for Marshall Co. Is anyone in this group related to the Joseph Morris who lived in Marshall County near Talley Station? He was born in Davidson County, TN, in 1802. He died in the 1860s and is buried in the New Hope Cemetery near Talley Station His wife was Eliza W. Bagley, daughter of Elisha Bagley. He had one brother Joel Morris. I think the boys were twins. I would like to know more about his Morris parents as well as Joeph's early life. Gerry Hunt
