    2. Yes, I have tried but apparently Livinah Moore died in 1835 so I can't place her with a John Moore in the census. I was hoping that some other Moore researcher had a will or something.

    2. Allen Grant
    3. I found an exact match using the 25-marker test, with a genetic distance of 3 when compared to the 37-marker test. We are definitely related. We have a 50% probability of being related within 5 generations and a 90% probability of being related within 16 generations. The other Grant indicates that his oldest Grant ancestor is probably John Grant, who was born probably before 1755, was a private in the King's American Regiment in the Revolutionary War, and died in 1783 in New York, New York. His widow Elizabeth (_____) Grant and their children left with the Loyalist fleet for New Brunswick, Canada. She married as her second husband Henry Cronkhite in the fall of 1784. John and Elizabeth's son William Grant was born in about 1774, married Ann Maidstone Hillman on Nov 4, 1795, at Woodstock, York County (now Carleton County), New Brunswick, Canada, and died on Mar 26, 1847, at Carleton County, New Brunswick, Canada. His family has been unable to find much about John Grant. We have determined that John Grant was 7 generations removed from my match, and Thomas Grant is 5 generations removed from me. So, there are two generations on my side that need to be identified. Both of us have been in touch with an Ashley, who is a match at 24 of 25 markers. Ashley's ancestors were in Lancaster County, Virginia, during the 1700's and England before that, the period we think that the earliest connection might have been made. We have not been able to find anything that identifies who that common ancestor with John might be. Allen Grant <'\\\>< http://home.houston.rr.com/agrant/genealogy/granthis.htm

Part of learning our past is history. I for one would like to see more regarding the stories of our past. Matter of fact I would like to see space for them on our site. I will forward a request to some of our other hosts to see if any of them know how to get a hold of old newspaper copies. Unfortunately, I have no idea what was available in Marshall County. I know there was a newspaper or two in Maury county though. I will look in the archives lists to see if there were microfilmed newspapers. I would also direct you to the Marshall County Historical Society. No website though, you will have to call or write to them. Welcome to Marshall County! Paulette

    3. I have just returned from a week's trip to the Allen County Public Library where I found a complete set (30 volumes) of the MCHQuarterly and went through it as much as I could during the time I had. I came to the computer today expressly to write to this mailing list to ask whether Donald C. Jeter, the Genealogist for the society who did so much work on those issues, is on this list - or if anyone could tell me how to get in contact with him. I would be interested in joining the new society, also, if they are accepting members. 3. Tara mentioned Jacob LORANCE & his mother-in-law Rebecca ORR in a recent message and I would suspect the following relates to them. Samuel Finley CAMPBELL began a ledger 1 Jan 1832. He and his family members, including the MOOREs, CAMPBELLs, and others, lived in Maury & Marshall Co TN. Entries in the ledger: "Samuel F. Campbell left Maury County, Tennessee to moove to the State of Illinois on the 9th of Oct. 1834 and moove home 3rd December 1834 . . . DEATHS Jacob LORANCE was born Aug. 7, 1759 and died May 24th, 1855. James ORR Nov. 5th 1787 in Davidson Co. Tenn. Robert ORR June 7th 1818." But the first Marshall Co. Orr to settle there was ROBERT ORR who immigrated to Williamson Co., TN from NC and then settled near Belfast in 1808, which then was Bedford Co. TN. Marshall was not formed until 1836. ROBERT ORR was born in 1764 and died in 1855 and the son of John Orr of NC (1740-1807). I also found a Joseph L. Orr who was appointed Postmaster of Belfast May 7, 1885. The 1857 Agraicultural Census of Marshall Co, Dist. 5 in Belfast has the following: John Leonard, Robert A. Orr, Samuel Orr, John Orr, John Orr, Sr. and R.J. Orr. I have taken this info from the 1971 Marshall Co. Historical Society magazine. Robert Orr's children were John, William, Robert J., Ester, Sally, Leah and Elizabeth. If you think this is the family then I will help you and put it in Register format.

I'm looking for any and all original articles pertaining to the Tennessee Fainting Goat/Myotonic Goat/Stiff Legged/Scare Goat. Much floating around the Internet regarding articles written in 1931, 1916, 1904 etc, however I've not been able to procure copies of them as of yet. Short story: 1880 John Tinsley showed up in Marshall County TN with 3 does & 1 buck - goats who became "stiff" when startled. He Stayed with a Mr. J. M. Porter for a while, then left the county after selling his goats to a Mr. Mayberry. I can direct a little more detail (from off the internet), but I do not want to clog this board up with "ungenealogical" stuff. However, I do not know where else to turn other than my peers who are interested in "history" stuff. I did inquire at one of the fainting goat associations, but they do not have copies. Thank you to any and all of you who might be able to look up this topic for me as I'm about 1300 miles away from TN. Bren bramajas@yahoo.com
