    3. Hi, I used to date a little sweetie named Jonnie Prosser ions ago -- we're talking 1961. Her family of Prossers lived between Belfast and Shelbyville, possibly in the Liberty Valley neighborhood. Seems like her mother may have been a Pickle--I'm not sure, but I believe they were related to them. I wish I could remember her dad's name, but I can't. It may have been John. ?? No telling what happened to her, but if you find her here on the Internet or so, please send her my regards. She was a fine person. She might not remember my name, but just tell her I was the radio announcer at WJJM. Sincerely, Bill Massey

    3. I am currently working on the Prosser Family genealogy. I am focusing on the Southern Middle Tennessee Prossers. If anyone has any info on the Prosser family that they can share with me I would appreciate it. I know where James and Frances (Richardson) Prosser are buried in Moore Co.. This cemetery has been destroyed, it is in Bartlett Hollow about 2 to 3 miles north of US 231. My linage to James Prosser runs thru his son Jonathan Prosser.

    3. Dear Listers, If anyone knows anything about this, I'm "all ears" as well. My grandfather, John Thomas Massey, was taken to Cullman, Alabama, by his father, William A. (Short) (correct) Massey to be treated by the "Mad Stone" after being bitten in the early 1890s. They said it "worked" on him as well, but judging by his behavior, sometimes I wonder. Thanks in advance! Bill Massey In F. C. & L. Most sincerely, William R. (Bill) Massey

    1. [TNMARSHA-L] ADDRESS NATIONAL CEMETERY/MAD STONE
    2. The address for the cemetery is: Director of Cemetery Services (41A) National Cemetery System Veterans Administration Washington, DC 20420 Mad Stone: On the Lincoln County list we were discussing mad stones. Several people said someone in their family in the past had them. One explanation given by Carmen McDaniel Forbes was " The stone was very white in color and smooth. It was sometimes said to have come from a hart/deer. Not only could it cure maddness, it was also said to cure snake bites by drawing out the poison. My grandmother( from Coffee county, born 1895 in Madison county, Al) had one in her possession when she died. When everyone was going through her things after she died, they wondered why she had kept this smooth white "rock". Well, it was sort of a neat look rock and I took it. Later found info about it in library.."folk healing". I do not know if she ever used it!. (Incidently my great-grandmother and grandmother who had a mad stone were from Madison County, Alabama. Don't know if this was a local thing or not.) Peggy

    3. Hi all, For those who are researching the Thomas family, I would be interested in knowing the parents of William Lewis Thomas, b. 9 Apr 1842, d. 1 Jul 1921, m. Sue Roann Noblin in 1864 Marshall Co, TN. William's wife was the daughter of William Noblin & Celia Wheeler. William Noblin was the brother to my ggGrandmother, Ann Noblin Sutton. I've got lots of info on the Noblin family to share. Thanks! She also had several other brothers, five of them serving in the Confederate Army, two of them dying at or just after the Battle of Stone's River near Murfeesboro, Tennessee. I think I've told you, her parents were Jonathan and Susan Hayes (we think) Thomas. Someday we may "crack this nut." 2. Bill, Found M.B. THOMAS's cemetery record in Weakley County. His stone gives his birthdate as March 30, 1827 (place unknown). The 1880 census Weakley County came up negative, so may have still been in Marshall County at that time. Also found an M.B. THOMAS birth listing on the IGI index for about 1825 Davidson County. No further info. Charlie Campbell

    1. [TNMARSHA-L] JESSIE NEARING/NERREN CIVIL WAR
    2. Dear List, I hope that someone can help me with this problem. My great-grandfather, Benjamin Franklin Nerren, was married first in Alabama. His first child was named Jesse. I have civil war records from the National Archives that list Jessie B. Nearing as being from Lincoln County, Tennessee. He was in 32nd TN. I believe that Jesse must have moved to Lincoln County to be with his father. Benjamin's second wife, Elizabeth Sullivan West had two children by her first husband. Thomas and Tempa Ann West. Tempa's descendant told me that Tempa told the family that she had a brother who served in the Confederate Services in the Civil War. He was taken prisoner and wrote a letter from prison to Tempa. In that letter he told of "a certain day that he would hang by the neck till dead." This was verified by the book; WAR OF REBELLION-OFFICIAL RECORDS, SERIES II, VOL 8, PAGE 421, Prisoners of war and State, correspondence, Union and Confederate: "Richmond, March 22, 1865: To brig Gen John E. Mulford, Assistant Agent of Exchange: Sir, the following named Confederate officers and soldiers were hung in Nashville at the dates and names to wit: Private Jessie Nearing, 32nd Tn, June 1864, two brothers by the name of West, belonging to the 32nd in Tn in June 1864. (others named also) R.O. Ould, Agnt of Exchange." Nothing in the records that the National Archives sent me indicate that Jessie was hung. However, they didn't have but a few records on him. I had a researcher check the records at the Archives in Nashville, but she found nothing. Can anyone give me advice on where to look for more information? Peggy Nerren Grisamore [email protected]

    2. Thank you of the McAdams information. It is very much appreciated. Anything more on Erwin Moore McAdams, his wife Sophronia Sanders and their children would be marvelous. Also looking any information regarding William S. McAdams and his family, as well as his father James and mother Rebecca Hill. I do know that James was a revolutionary solider, and that he is mentioned in Goodspeed as being among the earliest settlers to the area. Yours, Bernadette Murray-Macioce

    3. Bernadette, I have located a Willie Brents McADAMS on my sister-in-law's side. I don't know if it will help you or not. Don't have her father but her mother's name was Ellen Matilda BURROUGH. Willie was born 08 February 1897 and died 1953 in Petersburg, TN - Marshall County. She was married to James "Sammie" Samuel DARNELL. They were married 14 May 1912. I know this is just a little off the time that you are talking about, but maybe it will help. Cathy G. Wood Pulaski, TN

    1. [TNMARSHA-L] MURDOCK/WALL MARRIAGE
    2. Many thanks to Ann Wall for all the Wall marriages. One that I am interested in is Ezekiel Wall who married Jane Murdock, Sept. 1, 1845. Does anyone know who were the parents of Jane Murdock? Also, LDS shows the above marriage, and also shows a marriage about 1834 in Tippah, Mississippi to Ezekiel Edmond Wall. Does anyone know if this is the same Jane Murdock and Ezekial Wall? Appreciate any help. Peggy Nerren Grisamore [email protected]
