Hi Y'all, Anyone visiting the cemeteries, if you get photos I'd really like to add them to the web pages!! You can mail me a copy, a color copy, or scan and email it to me. It would be great to get the photos online for those who'll never get the chance to visit. I am told by a great authority on cemeteries that early spring is the perfect time. Before the weeds get tall its easier to get around, and you can often see indentations in the ground in these really old cemeteries, where there are graves who's markers are no longer there. And there aren't as many critters to have to contend with! Good Hunting, Karen
Hi Y'all, Just uploaded some new photos from Belfast school dating between 1937-1946. They are really great photos and thanks to Frances Roberts for sending them. If anyone can identify the unknown people, Frances would like to hear from you! Photo Gallery Good Hunting, Karen
Claude, The Horton Cemetery is just a very small cemetery located on Delina Rd. There is a small wooden white sign that says Horton Cemetery. However it is grown up pretty much with tall grass and weeds. At least it was as of July when I was there. So pay careful attention when you try to find it or you may miss it. It set up on a little hill and the only access to it is a small road that is grass covered. No blacktop, gravel or dirt but grass covered! Remember there are rattlesnakes in that area so be careful in the tall grass! You may want to take something to cut the weeds and grass that has grown over some stones. The New Hope Cemetary out of Cornersville is a very very old cemetery and I found it interesting. It is right on a sharp bend in road. Can't miss it. Good Luck!
Are there any of the Marshall Co. History for sale? I have seen some discussionon the e-mail people not getting response to the society and theier publication. Are they still publishing the quareterly? Carolyn in TX
Yes, there is a History of Marshall County. There are several copies around town. The grocery is SPENCER'S Market. The building has been there a very long time. John Kiser is a part of the Marshall County Historical Society and lives in Cornersville. Thanks very much for your generous offer.. My great grandfather was Thomas Winston Wakefield, born January 30, 1850, died January 19, 1918, and his wife, Martha Adelaide Cunningham Wakefield, born March 1851, died in 1934. One of their children, Bell Zana is also said to be buried in Cornersville. She was born March 16, 1890. My grandmother's brother, last name Enloe, may be located in the same cemetery but I am not certain. I have driven through the cemetery in Cornersville (Beechwood?) and explored a bit there to no avail. I am not sure that Brick Church is in Marshall County, but they could be buried there, but I have not found the graves. My grandparents raised their family in Cornersville, but are buried in Shelbyville. There is another Wakefield family in Marshall county that does not appear to be related to this family...tho who knows! Again, thank you for your generosity.
