Thought I would add the following Dysart - Stegall information to the discussion: Sallie Elizabeth Steagall, daughter of Jesse Steagall and his wife Elizabeth Webb, married Robert Crockett Dysart 19 Oct 1848 in Marshall Co, TN. Robert was born 26 Jan 1810 in Williamson Co, the son of Robert Dysart and his wife Susanna Denny. He died in the spring 1865. Is buried at Dysart Cemetery. Sallie Steagall was born 21 Jan 1830, and died 23 Mar 1864 in Marshall Co buried at Dysart Cemetery. Children: William Eli, Mary Jane, Anna Eliza, and an infant born and died 1864. The children lived with a brother of Sallie after their parents' death. Does anyone know if they also died of smallpox? Please add to and correct. Hello I am new to this mailing. I have just began researching a branch of my Ancestors that came from Marshall County. My g-grandmother was Maggie Ellen Franklin b. Aug 8, 1879 in Marshall County d. Dec 16, 1942 in Giles County. She married a Ben Lawson Pigg from Marshall County, We believe he died bet 1920 and 1930. I do not know who Ben Lawson Pigg's parents were, I would welcome any clues. Maggie Ellen Franklin's parents were Luther Franklin and Charlotte Crabtree. Charlotte was born Nov 16, 1858 in Marshall County and died Nov 16, 1928. I do not know Luther's date of birth or death, I do know he was quite a bit older than Charlotte. Luther was the son of Richard Franklin b.abt 1807 in GA and Francis. I do have a little more information on the siblings of Richard and Luther. I do not have anything on Charlotte Crabtree's Family. I do know Luther's brother Milton married a Hannah Crabtree, that would lead me to beleive that Hannah and Charlotte may be sisters. I would welcome any information on any of these Families.
Patricia and all, John Dysart was my gggggrandfather; he was the Revolutionary War veteran who fought at King's Mountain. His father, James Dysart (killed in the Revolutionary War) was born in Londonderry, Ireland. John was born in Chester Co., Pennsylvania. He had 15 children by two wives. He is most assuredly your ancestor, too. Yes, the Robert Dysart who m. Susannah Denny was by his first wife, Mary Patton. Andrew Dysart, another son, was my ggggrandfather and he m. Jane Ewing whose ancestors also came from Pennsylvania, by way of Elbert Co., GA. Their daughter, Rebecca Leah Dysart, m. Thomas Pratt Wilson, a schoolteacher and later a Union soldier. He died of smallpox 4/5/65 in Nashville in Hospital No. 11. I don't know much about the Wilsons other than they came from SC to Farmington, probably in the 1820s or 1830s. Their son, Thomas Andrew Sterling Wilson m. Idella Lancaster, daughter of William James Lancaster, a Confederate soldier. (Bet there were some interesting conversations there. : ) ) Their daughter, Vera Rebecca Wilson m. Frank Clair Musgrave, my grandparents. Practically all of these people are buried either in the Bills/Dysart Cemetery or the Temple Cemetery in Farmington. T.P. Wilson was b. in the Nashville National Military Cemetery just off Gallatin Road in Nashville. Other Dysarts, Ewings and Leepers are b. in the Betherei Cemetery, also in Farmington. I hope this may help you and others researching these old Marshall County families. Hi, Bill Allen! <grin> . Sincerely, Bill Massey In F. C. & L. Most sincerely, William R. (Bill) Massey
Patricia: There is a John Dysart and Andrew Dysart, on a land lot map I have at Farmington, Tn., in Marshall Co. on E. Fork of Rock Creek in the 1830s +. I got the map from a lands and wills book at the Lewisburg, Tn. library. Let me know if I can help further. Roger A. Harkness Patricia Pulles wrote: > Hi Bill, > Thanks for replying to my post. I'm searching for information on William Ring born 1824 in TN, I have found him in the 1850 census in Marshall Co. district 9. His wife Martha and two children Rebecca 4, and William 3. Looking at maps of the area from later dates show several Rings in the area. Can any one help? Kenny Ring [email protected]

Hi Bill, Thanks for replying to my post. I am definitely interested in the DYSART line. I have very little about them. I believe Mary Ann DYSART is the daughter of Robert DYSART and Susanna DENNY, married on May 11, 1801 in Granada County, Kentucky. They also have a son, Gideon Blackburn Dysart. Do you have these names? I have a little more information about them. Let me know if you want it. Do you have a web page I can copy it from? I have Family Tree Maker 5.0 if that helps. Anyhow, thanks for your help. Judi and Patricia The Bills lineage as given is Vol X Spring 1979 No1 of the Marshall Co. Historial Quartly I believe is wrong as many other Bills searchers I have a 5 page document that shows the correct lineage Patricia I have searched and reserrched myBills info and cannot locate your James Arlis--I did locate him in the 1900 Navarro Co. TX--listed as James R If you have access to TX libraries the Navorro Co has many books giving bio maybe you will get lucky. I also cannot believe that your James A is not listed in the 1860 TN index--Perhaps he is living in another household--Would be worth a check of the index. Good luck in your searching CarolynCamp [email protected]
Patricia, I have many BILLS but that one is not listed. The BILLS line is in one of the Marshall County Historical Societies publications but I don't remember the number. I'll have to look for it. Judi [email protected]
Patricia, Are you interested in the Dysarts? They all descend from James Dysart from Londonderry, Northern Ireland and his son, John Bertrand Dysart who moved from PA to NC to Bedford/Marshall Counties, Tennessee. I'm descended from them and I'm quite certain that Mary Ann is as well. Happy Hunting! Bill Massey In F. C. & L. Most sincerely, William R. (Bill) Massey
I have submitted child 9--There is no 10 Thank you Carolyn Camp
I am looking for information about my great-grandparents, James Artice BILLS, born in Tennessee on November 10, 1854, and Elizabeth "Bettie" Ann FRENCH. He was superintendent of the Sunday school at the Brushie Prairie Methodist Church (in Navarro County, Texas) until his death in March 01, 1903; he is buried at Prairie Brush Cemetery. He lived in Tennessee, Navarro County (Texas) and perhaps in Oklahoma. While in Texas he lived with his cousin, Robert Dysart BILLS (son of Amos Landon BILLS and Mary Ann DYSART from Marshall County, Tennessee. He was married three times (to my knowledge). Elizabeth "Bettie" Ann FRENCH, daughter of Joseph Taylor FRENCH and Sarah GROSS from Alabama, was born May 25, 1859 in Alabama, and died between 1929-1930 in Oklahoma (probably near Altus). She was married three times as well. James Artice BILLS and "Bettie" Ann FRENCH had three sons: William Artice, b. October 24, 1897 in Texas, died January 08, 1969 in Seguin, Texas; Bruce Ramsey BILLS (my grandfather), b. September 29, 1899 in Frost, Texas; and another son who died at a very early age. James Artice married R. Helen FRENCH, born July 29, 1863, on August 27, 1884 in Navarro County, Texas; she died March 17, 1893 in Navarro County, Texas. They had four children: James A. "Pete" (b. June 01, 1886), Sarah A. (b. January 1888), Nellie E. (b. September 03, 1891), and Lessie (b. January 25, 1893). He was also married to Annie SMITH on April 21, 1895 in Navarro County, Texas. Bettie Ann FRENCH married Samuel A. RITCHEY (not sure of spelling), who was born in 1852. They had one daughter: Thelma Sue RITCHEY, b. March 02, 1906, probably in Jackson County, Oklahoma. Bettie Ann was also married to A. Smith. My mom, Wilda Ruth BILLS, was born in Hess (OK) in 1925 to Bruce Ramsey BILLS and Lucille Elva ELMS (born near Leakey, Texas). My mom, her brother Bruce Ramsey, Jr. and their parents lived in Elmer and in Altus, Jackson County, Oklahoma, and in Navarro County, Texas. I would appreciate any information about the BILLS, FRENCH, SMITH, and RITCHEY families in Oklahoma and/or Texas. I especially would like to know who my great-grandparents were. Dear Karen and All, I keep hoping that someone will stumble across something relating to John and Mary H. (Henry?) Massey who were living in the Cornersville-Lynnville area in the early to mid-1800s. Their children include Drury, Eliza, Joseph H., James H., Leroy F., John W., and Mary Massey. Different ones married into the Poarch, Short, and Burgess families. Any scrap of information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again, Bill Massey In F. C. & L. Most sincerely, William R. (Bill) Massey
I recently noticed an old photograph among my family collection that is dated June 1904. This photo is of 10 people, two young men and eight young women. Three of the women are - my grandmother, Ruth Hunter, who married Harris Allen; and her two sisters, Emma & Lake Hunter. These Hunter sisters were born in 1877, 1880, & 1884. None of the others are specifically identified; however, there are six other names written on the back of the photo: Lelu Roberts, Mattie Lou McCollum, Ethel McCollum, Phenton McCollum, Mack McCollum, Roy McCollum. I suspect that these other people may have been from the Belfast area as were the Hunter's. Are these others members of the families of any of the other list subscribers?
