Dear Linda, My gggrandfather, William Dodson Carlton was the son of John Carlton, Jr. and Elizabeth Bryant from Marshall County, Tennessee. I believe that Howard Carlton was a cousin to my ancestor John Carlton, Jr., son of John Carlton, Sr., son of John Carlton and Elizabeth Wallace. I am not positive, but I believe that Howard Carlton was the son of Lewis Carlton and Elizabeth Eve. Lewis Carlton was brother to my John Carlton, Sr., and they were both sons of John Carlton and Elizabeth Wallace. At any rate, I am pretty sure these families are related, even if my account of this relationship is not complete. I would be happy to share information with you to see if we can come closer to completing the puzzle. ----- Original Message ----- From: Linda Bartos <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Thursday, December 16, 1999 2:57 PM Subject: [TNMARSHA] Re: [TNMARSHA-L] Mt. Dear Sandra, I am trying to research my Carlton(Calton) ancestors and noticed that you had asked for a lookup on Carltons. My gggrandfather was John F. Carlton/Calton who married Martha Long in Marshall Co. in 1858. I believe Martha was a granddaughter of Richard Long of Marshall Co. I have had no luck in proving John's father although I believe his father was Howard Carlton/Calton who resided in Marshall Co. in the 1840 census and deeded land to the Methodist Episcopal Church in Marshall Co. Are my Carltons in any way related to yours? Would love to share info. Lavonne, I have just returned from a recent trip through Tennessee and one of my finds I came across at the Marshall County Memorial Library in Lewisburg is a book titled HARDISON AND ALLIED FAMILIES published by Fred L. Hawkins of Columbia, Tennessee. In that book on page 268 is found the following: David Mark Hardison. He, born 18-Feb-1831, died 23-Apr-1921; married Lucinda "Lou" A. Davis on 26-Oct-1865; she, born 13-Sep-1840, died 21-Sep-1913. Both buried in Morton Cemetery [in southeast Maury County near the Marshall County line.]. Children of David M. and Lucinda A. Davis Hardison: Joshua Payne Hardison (1867-1949) Nancy E. Hardison (1869-1956) Mattie E. Hardison (1871-1959) David Norris Hardison (1879-1945) Mamie L. Hardsion (1880-1974) S. Lloyd Hardison (1882-1963) Two infants (1866 and 1876) Unfortunately, the parents of Lucinda Davis are NOT listed. Do the dates match up to what you have for your Lucinda? Christopher, I haven't made a request about research, but I need to make one. For several years I have been trying to make a connection between Presley George Hackney and John S. Hackney who is shown on the 1850 Marshall county census age 67 and Mary age 67 with John H Arnold age 25, Rachael 27, Amanda 5, William 3 and Joseph H. age 1. The Marshall county records shows Presley George Hackney married Alzada Elliott in Marshall county in 1848. We are descendants of Presley George Hackney. P.G.. Hackney is show on the 1857 district 11 agricultural census. John S. Hackney lived within Maury county before Marshall county was formed. I will appreciate any help I can get. Bill Smith.
