I am searching for information on the parents of MARY ANN DAVIS, b. 1818, in AL or TN. Married CHARLES N. THOMPSON in 1839, Marshall county TN. In 1840 census, there were several Davises near them, but only two that were about the right age for her father. They were Alexander Davis, b. 1780-90 John Davis, b. 1770-1780 There was a William W. Davis living next to Alexander, and Charles and Mary Thompson's first son was named William W. Thompson. There was also another William Davis who lived next to John Davis. Would be interested in any information available. Mary Ann Davis Thompson died in August 1891, and is buried at Prosperity Church Cemetery in Lincoln county TN. According to the 1880 census, her father was b. in KY and her mother in AL. Thanks! >I was wondering if you had any info on Holman's Calvary or the 11th Tenn. >Calvary out of Marshall County. I am particularly looking for info on M.B. >THOMAS and William W. BRADEN, both who were members of Holman's and later the >11th. I would appreciate any help. Per the records I have, companies B, C, & E of the 11th Cavalry were Marshall Co companies that were earlier part of Holman's Battalion. Marshall Co Hist. Quarterly will be publishing rosters with brief service records & biographies if available of these companies in the "near future" issues. I do have a roster of Company B of the 11th Cavalry Regiment which was earlier Company A of Holman's Cavalry Battalion. This roster includes M. B. Thomas, but does not include William W. Braden. Dear Charlie, It was good to hear from you again! I have the two-volume set TENNESSEANS IN THE CIVIL WAR. If you'll send me your snail address, I'll be happy to send you whatever the book might have on those two regiments. The book basically summarizes the Official Records. OK? Looking forward to hearing from you. Sincerely, Bill Massey

The Old Orchard Cemetery is 1/4 mile east of Petersburg across Cane Creek on highway 129. Richmond Cemetery is between Petersburg and Shelbyville in the Community of Richmond on highway 130 out of Petersburg. Foster Cemetery is 4-1/2 miles east of Petersburg in Foster Hollow and east of Foster Hollow. McAdams Cemetery is 6 miles south of Belfast on Old Fishing Ford Road. Original land belonged to Joseph McAdams. ----- Original Message ----- From: Richard King To: [email protected] Sent: Monday, February 21, 2000 8:07 PM Subject: [TNMARSHA] Cemetery location Can someone advise the exact location of the following: Richmond Cemetery Petersburg Old Orchard Cemetery Petersburg Foster Cemetery McAdams Cemetery Thanks R.W. King ______________________________
The Old Orchard Cemt. at Petersburg is located on what I call the Chestnut Ridge Rd. across from the "Old Colt Show Grounds" It is a nice well kept Cemt. I think it would be considered Lincoln Co...... The Richmond Cemt is in Bedford Co. just off the road out of Petersburg I call the Richmond Rd. going to Shelbyville. The Foster Cemt is located in Lincoln Co. and it is in the area called "Pograb" also toward Chestnut Ridge. It is located in Foster Hollow. If you want more directions than this I will try to find a county map and give these roads Highway numbers. I think the Chestnut Ridge Rd. is hwy 134---it is due east out of Petersburg. And the Richmond is north out of Petersburg. There use to be a community of Richmond with a country store but I do not think there is any thing open there except still some Churches in the Community. Some of the McAdams family can tell you more of that Cemt. than I can but it is off the Fishing Ford Rd. south of Belfast and about 4 miles. It has been destroyed. The county has erroneously named the road the "Conrad Rd." and while there were lots of properties owned by the Conrad family he has never owned any in that Hollow. It was the McAdams property and then the Troupe property and also the McKinneys lived on that same road, but I go back a good ways and there was never any Conrad's lived there or even owned the property. It seems there may be another McAdams Cemt. some where off the Liberty Valley Rd. Good Luck Frances Beard Roberts

In Cemetery Records of Marhall County I found the following on the McAdams Cemetery: "Located about six miles south of Belfast, on Old Fishing Ford Road. Original land belonged to Joseph McAdams." There is also a note that: "Cemetery was destroyed many years ago." I find no listings for a Richmond, Old Orchard or Foster Cemetery in the book. Best regards, Cary
Hello Bill Massey, Frances has told me that you are quite the Civil War buff. And that you might have information on W. D. Gillum, husband of Mary A. Brooks and James McCoy, husband of Amanda L. Brooks. I have found a reference to a pension for W. D. Gillum but I am having trouble finding out what happened to James. He is last found in the 1860 census with Amanda and one small child. She is found next in 1870 living with her parents with her 2 children and Mary A. is living there as well. Her parents were Thoams F. Brooks & Hellen Edwards. Thanks.
Jane- I did not know you were doing research in Marshall County, too. Did you know Pearl Baylor Hemphill's husband, Thomas Clarence Hemphill, was born in Marshall County in 1890? I get the e-mailings from Marshall County and saw your latest postings. Small world isn't it? Hope this finds you well. My husband, Gil, had qunintuple heart by-pass surgery the Dec. 29th, so, WE are recuperating from that. He is progressing well - just slower than he expected. Dear Bill - You can pay for your time or there is a way to do data entry online for them. You enter their data from census records into their forms. For every two records you get one free hour. It takes approx 5 minutes per two records to enter. Very easy. Belinda
Dear Belinda, Let me revise this. I didn't realise it was going out on the entire list. Ha! At least let me correct my typos! : ) . Now, that's better! Do you have to pay for it? I wouldn't want to subscribe for a lengthy period, not knowing, just for one family. Does it mention William and Rebecca Short wh had a chid named Louisa who m. John Wesley Massey? Any mention of Native American blood there? Thanks for your time! Sincerely, Bill Massey

Kindred Konnections has alot of information on the Short family in Marshall County................they are connected to my family the Pigg/Pigue family. I think you will find the information on that web site very useful. Belinda
My GGrandfather Gibson Jewett Shortt married Marzee Eugenia Price on 7 October 1875 . Records that I have are not clear as to whether this couple married in Marshall or Bedford Co., TN. Any help to solve this question would be most appreciated. Thanks Jane Beattie
My GGGrandfather migrated from Ulster Co., NY to Marshall Co., TN. He was Jeremiah Shortt and his wife was Elizabeth Reynolds. Five children were born to this couple in NY and the 6th child Cora Belle Shortt was born 16 July 1874 in Marshall Co., TN. Would like to know if there is a possibility of getting some sort of proof of the birth of Cora Belle? Thanks Jane Beattie
