    2. There is a Samuel F. Tillman in Byron Sistler's transcription of the 1830 census of Maury Co. He has two daughters under ten and two sons under ten. This may be the portion of Maury Co which became Marshall in 1836 (which is the same year Coffee Co was formed). Carolyn Odle Smotherman

    1. [TNMARSHA] Re: Tillmon/Tillman
    2. Hi Everyone! I'm looking for a family by the last name of TILLMON/TILLMAN. (spelled both ways) Samuel Taylor TILLMAN- born 1798 in Chatham County, NC. He married Martha PERRY before 1822 probably in Chatham County, NC. Martha must have died about 1832 because Samuel then married Martha's sister Mary Carter PERRY in 1833. Samuel and his first wife Martha supposedly moved to Coffee County, TN and had their first child in 1822. I cannot find this to be true however, since Coffee County was not formed until 1831? Between the two marriages, 14 children were born. Most list a different county in TN that they were born in, however in all my research, I haven't pin pointed them in one county in TN yet! Okay.....to sum it up....Samuel Taylor Tillman b 1798 in NC, d 1864 in MO His children were: Robert Wesley (went by R.W.) Tillman b-1822 in TN *my g,g,great grandfather* Louisa Gida Tillman, b 1825 in TN John Calvin Tillman, b 1826 in TN Newton Jasper Tillman, b 1832 in TN Margaret Tillman, b 1834 in TN Oran Mentor Tillman, b 1835 in TN Samuel Andrew Jackson Tillman, b 1837 in TN Stanley D. Tillman, b 1839 in TN Martha W. Tillman, b 1841 in TN Caroline Tillman, b 1843 in TN Parlee Tillman, b 1845 in TN Joseph Albert Madison Tillman, b 1848 in TN Lucy Taylor Tillman, b 1850 in TN Louisianna or Missouri Tillman, b 1851 in MO Some of the counties mentioned in the family history are Coffee County, McNairy County, Bedford County, Manchester County, Marshall County, Hardeman County. Samuel moved to Greene County, MO in 1850...bought land there and is said to have turned around and came back to TN for 7 or 8 more years?? He was a Justice of the Peace in both TN and MO. He supposedly owned a Mill Pond on a river in Bedford County, TN. However, like I mentioned earlier, I cannot pin-point this family at all in TN. In all these peoples in their later lives supplied information for the census taker, they all did mention Tennessee as their birth place......so I guess I need to look harder :) If any of this sounds familiar, please e-mail me. I'm anxious to locate [email protected]# :) Pam Tillman-Goff >>

    2. Ron Estes
    3. I have THOMAS ancestry out of Rutherford/Marshall & Bedford Co., TN The earliest I have found to date is Christopher C. Thomas, b. 1836, VA, who married Susan Fowler (d/o James E. Fowler) in 1858, in Marshall Co, TN. They would migrate to Sharp Co., AR in 1882/83. In the 1860 census for Marshall Co., TN, I find C.C. Thomas & wife, name is unclear, living two doors down from a William Thomas, age 50, and wife Susan, age 37. William & Susan's children were listed as Arimetia B., William L., Mary G., James W., & Sarah F. In the 1850 census, Bedford Co., I find this family (Wm. & Susan Thomas) with the same children as above, and additional children Kett B. and Elizabeth A.. It is possible that Kett is the same person as my Christopher C. (Cit C.) I have no basis of proof for my speculation other than the proximity of their respective dwellings in the census Does anything here look familiar to you, or anyone else Ron

    1. Re: [TNMARSHA] Dora Bell Russell
    2. I can expound a little on the first family that Carolyn listed. Elijah Russell was the second husband of Virginia Stewart. Virginia Stewart was the eldest daughter of Grayson Stewart and Jane Phillips of Bedford Co. TN. Virginia was born in 1834 and married Thomas Shearin ca 1854. They had five children, three of which were still living with their mother and step-father in 1880. The 1880 listing has an error - Sallie J Shearin is not Elijah's daughter-in-law but rather is his step-daughter. Dora Shearin is actually the daughter-in-law, wife of Grayson Shearin. Dora is better known as Madora Shofner Shearin, and she was the daughter of Loton Shofner and Susie Roberts. Therefore, this listing is probably a deadend for you. 2. Donna De Graw
    3. Hi my name is Donna Russell De Graw and I'm wondering if anyone could please look up on the 1880 Marshall Co., census and Is if anyone could find a lady for me. Her name is Dora Bell Russell she was born 24 July 1876 in Marshall Co., Tennessee. My problem is I don't know if her father is David Allen (Elijah) Russell b. 2 April 1857 in Bedford Co., Tennessee or if her father is James C. Russell b. 15 Jun 1822 in Franklin Co., Georgia. But in our family bible Dora Bell is in the David Allen family so we don't know if she is his daughter from a first marriage or if she is his younger sister. So is there anyway that someone could find the 1880 Marshall Co., and see who her parents are. David Allen went by Allen or Elijah or even Eda. In our family bible he went by Allen But the 1860 Beford Census he was called Allen. So if can look it up for me I would be one very happy camper. She could easily be David Allen daughter but if she is David would of been married before Nettie. I really hope you can help me of know of someone how do a lookup for me. I can't leave my home because my husband is terminally ill and I stay at home to take care of him. Please let me know and If you can't help I well understand. Sincerely Hoping Donna [email protected]

Thank you in advance. > Sincerely, > William R. (Bill) Massey Hi Bill and Listers, I may have a smidgeon of information to add on the Anderson Sharp Hayes line. The following is from a mss published in 1978 by Prof. Richard Darden Bourne (deceased) of Vanderbilt Univ. Prof. Bourne was part of my Marshall line. "Tennessee Emily Hayes was the daughter of ANDERSON SHARP HAYES, born 14 Oct 1791, Va.; died 25 Apr 1857, White Plains, Ala. and MARTHA CYNTHIA BLAIR, born 25 Feb 1795, Tenn.; died 23 Sep 1846, buried in Laws Cemetery, Marshall Co., Tenn., married 15 Jan 1814." "Tennessee Emily was born 9 Jan 1824, Farmington, Tenn., died Nov 1896, Boxley, Tenn." This Tennessee Emily married John Lowry Lee and were the parents of my great-grandmother, Kansas Virginia Lee. She married my great grandfather, William Bullock Marshall. Prof. Bourne adds, "for further information, if desired, a book, "A Short Genealogy of Anderson Sharp Hayes, compiled by David Price, Jr., 1954 Old Hickory Blvd.; Brentwood, Tenn. may be secured." I wrote David Price last September and received a very nice letter from him. His father was the one who did the genealogy work and he died in July 1998. David was not aware that he had published the above mentioned book. I quote from David's letter, "I know nothing of his (Anderson Sharp's) ancestry. Once my dad said Anderson *might* be the son of a William Hayes of Maryland but he had no proof. Anderson Sharp Hayes and Martha Cynthia Blair, in addition to your antecedent, Tennessee Emily, also had a son, James Garrett Hayes, (David Price descends through James Garrett) born 20 (or 29) July 1820, TN; died 26 Oct 1883, TN. who on 1 July 1855 married Tennessee Caroline Adams (born 17 Feb 1837, Bedford Co., TN; died 5 Jun 1904, Marshall County, TN.)" I would truly love to have more info on the Anderson Sharp Hayes familly. Do you know anything of the book mentioned, A Short Genealogy of Anderson Sharp Hayes? Interesting sidenote: my Marshalls of Davidson and Williamson County married back and forth into the Hunter family but I've checked my database and have no James Newton Hunter or a Cynthia Ann. I would not be surprised if we eventually found a connection. There is a Marshall-Hunter Cemetery in Whites Creek, just north of Nashville. Lynda Lee Marshall
