McCool, I found it interesting to find his parents without him and then I found the following entry which led me to believe that perhaps he was living with (or at least visiting) his maternal grandparents at the time of the census: 1870 Marshall County, Tennessee, 5th District/Lewisburg PO, 19 July 1870, pg. 57A/1 (image 1): 5/5 Nell, James, 63, m, w, Farm Laborer, NC Lively, 64, f, keeping house, NC McCool, George, 7, m, w, TN So I backed up to the 1860 Marshall Co, TN census to see if James and Lively had a daughter named Martha and found the following: 1860 Marshall County, Tennessee, Dist 5/Belfast PO, 4 June 1860, pg. 41B/8 (8 image 8): 57/58 James Neil, 53, m, Farmer, $/$400, NC Lively, 55, f, NC Wm R., 23, m, Brickmaker, TN Martha J., 17, f, house work, TN Harvey C., 16, m, Farm hand, TN Note: 56/57 James R. Neil, 49, m, Farmer, $12,500/$12,500, TN, wife Matilda, 42, f, TN; children Mary, Henry, Tennessee, Saml Lucinda, Josephine, Joseph--could be brother of James Neil??? AND THEY DID! Now I'm trying to prove that martha Neil is in fact the wife of Arch E. McCool. I calculate that they married about 1861 in Tennessee as they both report being born in TN on the census records and their first child, George, was born in Tennessee in Feb. 1862. Here are Arch & Martha in 1880: 1880 Marshall County, Tennessee, ED 136/Civil Dist. 5, 8 June 1880, pg. 360D/8 (image 8): 66/66 McCool, Arch E., w, m, 52 (1828), married, Farmer, TN,TN,TN Martha J., w, f, 40, married, keeping house, TN,TN,NC George F., w, m, 17, son, single, at home, TN, TN,TN Jessie C., w, m, 15, son, single, Laborer, TN,TN,TN Walter M., w, m, 10, son, single, at home, TN,TN,TN Catharine J., w, f, 13, dau, single, at home, TN,TN,TN John E., w, m, 9, son, single, at home, TN,TN,TN Maggie, w, f, 7, dau, single, at home, TN,TN,TN William D., w, m, 5, son, single, at home, TN,TN,TN Albert L, w, m, 3, son, single, at home, TN,TN,TN Note: #7 63/63 Jame R. Here is a bit of information that I found this morning in some notes given to me by Sid Baker, a distant relative through marriage of his mother to a Grant, whose name appeared in almost every book in the Clayton Genealogy Library in Houston that I was searching for Grant history. I am searching for information about Thomas GRANT and Sarah DAVIS nee GLOVER GRANT. "After the death of Thomas Grant, in the latter part of 1838 in Marshall County, TN, the remaining members of the family decided to remove to areas where their brother and sisters were living. The widow Sarah Grant (who was married to Thomas Grant); James Davis Grant and family; Early Reasonover (who married Lavinia, daughter of Thomas and Sarah Grant) and family; Richard G. Grant and Adaline with Malinda Elizabeth who had been born in Maury County, TN. They arrived in Pontotoc County Mississippi, before the U. S. 1840 Census was taken, as they were in it. It was in Pontotoc County that Martha P. Grant was born in 1842, and John Thomas Grant was born in February 2, 1844. A son Davis died as a small boy. R. G. Grant operated a store there, and I have in my possession a copy of the "Mobile Journal of Commerce Letter -- Sheet Price -- Current" dated Wednesday, October 29, 1845. Brother John and his family and sister Mary and David R. Looney were already living in Ponto! toc County, Mississippi. Staying in Mississippi until 1847, they moved on to Clarksville, Red River County, Texas where sister Elizabeth and Posey P. Weaver were living, after several months they journeyed on to Rusk County where sister Nancy and William Whitehead had settled. The Reasonovers stayed here for several years, then moving to Grayson County, near Sherman, Texas. James Davis Grant bought land in Robertson County, Texas, near Franklin, his land was known as "Grant Prairie". He remained there the rest of his life, and those of his family who died there are buried in the Owensville Cemetery. The widow Sarah Grant who died January 7. 1860 is also buried there." It does not show that she lived in Robertson County at time of death, however. We do know that James Davis and family moved to Robertson County Texas in 1852. Other information from Sid Baker indicated, "Sarah Grant had a sister named Christina who married a man named James Davis. The 1850 Federal Census records for Marshall County, Tennessee, reflects that Christina was born in North Carolina. However, I have been unable to locate any NC data such as maiden name. Grandma always said that her grandma Grant was born in Northern Ireland. In the 1850 Federal Census for Rusk County Texas and 1880 Federal Census for Robertson County Texas for James David Grant said both parents were born in Tennessee." Further, from Sid's notes, "John Grant, first son of Thomas and Sarah Grant, married Martha Shannon and they were living in Pontotoc County, Mississippi in 1850 with their tow children David and Jackson. Richard G. Grant married Adeline Fowler ca 1829 in Bedford County, Tennessee and died in Coryell County, Texas in 1858 with wife and three children surviving. Thomas Grant's oldest daughter Mary, married David Looney and died in Pontotoc County Mississippi in 1857...." One final relevant note from Sid: "Thomas and Sarah Grant and James and Christina Grant were in Maury County, Tennessee many years prior to 1816. Thomas, James and Christina died in Marshall County Tennessee in 1837 (other information indicates 1838, not 1837), 1840 and 1854 respectively. Sarah and Christina were sisters." Any help would be appreciated. Allen <'\\\><

Surnames: SWANNER & DANIEL/DANIELS Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/zhB.2ACI/1042 Message Board Post: I am desparately seeking information on James Swanner who married Synthia Ann Danile on March 5, 1838. Their marriage is listed in teh Marshall Co. Marriage Bonds Vol. I 1838 - 1849. I need any information reguarding either James or Synthia; however, I am really trying to find info on Synthia as I believe she may be the Mother of my great great grandfather. James Swanner was married in 1815/1816 in Beaufort Co., NC to Anne/Anna Cherry. According to other researchers, James came West on the wagon train around 1833 to settle the land he received as a vetern of the War of 1812. My great great grandfather, Enoch Gray Swanner was born in December of 1828/1829 and, according to census records, in TN. This means that Anne/Anna Cherry Could not have been his mother as I thought. Please, if you have any information on these families, e-mail me at: acopehart@yahoo.com. Thanks, Anne Hart

My information about Hugh L. Thomson is very sketchy. An elderly relative thought that perhaps Hugh's father had been born in South Carolina; birth date 6 Jun 1806 (apparently from the gravestone). She thought his mother's maiden name might have been TYSON, but that is not at all firm. He married Mary Henrietta BLACKWELL, who may have been born in TN or KY, so you probably wouldn't have anything on her, even if my Hugh is your Hugh. The names of his daughters were Emily James, Betty, Anne, and Cally, and he had a son Henry Hugh. It sounds possible they were the same man, although some details don't match: place of birth, the middle initial and mother's maiden name. Date and maiden name could be faulty memory, but I believe the middle initial may have been on the gravestone.

Ora Kincaid was Arthur Kincaid's wife and lived just down the road on the right hand side. I remember J.O. quite well, he lived up the hill from us and at one time had a small store in one room of his house. I remember is wife being named Effie and i remember his mother, but cannot recall her name. My father and mother was named Henry and Ida Mai Kincaid. I remember one girl of J.O. and Effie that was handicapped, cannot remember her name. We still go through there every time we're back in TN. My brother owned a lot accross the road from J.O. old home place until he died. My mother's maiden name was Scott and we were kin to all the Scott's in the area. By the way, my grandmother was Eliza Jane Lunn Kincaid, however i have never been able to connect her to J.O.'s family. She was from Spring Hill area in Maury County. Do you have any information about Eliza Jane Lunn? One of Ora Kincaid's sons lives next to J.O. home place, Douglas Kincaid.
