Frank, This discussion is probably not helping you much in finding family. After poking around in the census records and some current records, I think most of your Rhodes family that "stayed behind" ended up in Hamilton county. I don't know how much digging you want to do but there is a way to get obituaries going way back as well as fairly current ones. http://www.lib.chattanooga.gov/localHist/obitnote.html I would do some research first and get a complete list of all the obits you want because they charge $10 for each order plus $1 per obit requested. I see that the obits of L. W. Rhodes and L. W. Rhodes, Jr. are listed as well as Mrs. W. W. Rhodes. If the death was within the last few years you can sometimes find the obit by simply doing a search on a person's name (put it in quotes to eliminate a lot of junk results).
